Economists find bikers, motorcyclists and pedestrians are most at risk.
(Inside Science) -- When gasoline prices fall or the economy grows, people may have more money to spend, but there can be an unexpected downside. Traffic fatalities often increase because additional drivers take to the roads. Now, economists have established that another seemingly auspicious occurrence has a dark side: nice weather.
That's the surprising finding from a pair of economists, who investigated how climate change may affect traffic accident rates in the United States over the next century.
In their analysis, the researchers predict that as the planet warms, there will be a net increase of about 650 traffic fatalities - mostly pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists - each year in the U.S. by 2100. Their findings have not yet been formally peer-reviewed by the academic community.

Actually, this is a highly provocative new line of research, and the implications are staggering once one starts to think of it. There will be more deaths from drowning because warmer weather means more swimming. More deaths from skin cancer because of more time on the beach. The concussion rate will soar because of more participation in field sports. There will be more campers in high country, and more deaths from grizzlies, more deaths from rattlesnake bites, and more people run over by riding lawn mowers. Not to mention more deaths from obesity because a warmer climate means more abundant food. I do not think the human race can survive better weather.

Cant be all the bad drivers out there could it? I travel 124 miles a day for 27 years into a major city from the suburbs and I’ve seen it all, people taking and texting, eating food off of a dinner plate while driving with their knees, eating a hero or a burger and fries, putting on makeup, shaving, reading a newspaper and the ones who are actually driving should not be driving at all, certain ethnic groups are horrendous, the very old, seniors who are retired and out on the road at 5 am when they should be home sleeping.So now we can all rest easy knowing that its climate change and not any of the above

Traffic fatalities are probably directly correlated to increasing CAFE fuel standards. The lighter the car the less survivable the passengers are.

LOL...Our 5 YO grandson was with us last week, and we just took it easy. He asked his grandmother what she was doing, and she replied, "oh, I'm just fartin' around today."
My grandson then said, "Nana, stop eating beans, and you'll be ok."
The looks I get from kids when I tell them we only had 3 or 4 TV stations when I was their age.
Or when I tell them I lived without TV for 4 years during my tour in Germany. I was too far from base for the AFN signal.
We are to get a lot of snow where I live. Media is telling us we are all doomed. Stores are out of bread and milk. People buying like crazy. Funny the major advertisers for the local news just happen to be the food stores. Funny how that works.
