The family loyalists watch the decline of Jeb Bush's presidential ambitions with a mix of sadness and resignation.
New Hampshire-It is never a good sign for a candidate when your supporters start feeling sorry for you, but that is what has happened to Jeb Bush.
"Poor Jeb," said Tony Manix, a 54-year-old Air National Guard member in jeans and a puffy down jacket, who had come to see Bush speak-not for the first time-at a private school here, on a chilly, wind-whipped seacoast night. "I just don't understand why his numbers aren't up," Manix added plaintively. "If you listen to him, if you hear what he says, he really has the best plan for our country. But the American people don't seem to want to spend the time to dig into what the issues are really about."
Poor Jeb. (Or, this being New Hampshire, "poah Jeb.")
To a degree not common to other candidates, Bush's supporters feel protective of him and grieved for his sake. They seem acutely aware that he was never supposed to be in this position-mired in the back of the crowded pack of candidates, struggling to be heard, on the edge of being counted out. A campaign that began with a frontrunner's fanfare now averages less than 5 percent in national polls. It's a situation that might be humbling or humiliating for your average governor or senator making a run at the title, but it takes on special resonance for a member of one of America's royal families.
The fact of Bush's lineage has made the grim saga of the campaign something more than Jeb's personal drama. It has been his burden and his boon alike, elevating and stifling him at the same time.

Americans Really, Really Hate The Government

If there is one thing that Americans can agree on these days, it is the fact that most of us don’t like the government. CBS News has just released an article entitled “Americans hate the U.S. government more than ever“, and an average of recent surveys calculated by Real Clear Politics found that 63 percent of all Americans believe the country is heading in the wrong direction and only 28 percent of all Americans believe that the country is heading in the right direction. In just a few days the first real ballots of the 2016 election will be cast in Iowa, and up to this point the big story of this cycle has been the rise of “outsider†candidates that many of the pundits had assumed would never have a legitimate chance. Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders have all been beneficiaries of the overwhelming disgust that the American people feel regarding what has been going on in Washington.
And it isn’t just Barack Obama or members of Congress that Americans are disgusted with. According to the CBS News article that I referenced above, our satisfaction with various federal agencies has fallen to an eight year low…
A handful of industries are those “love to hate†types of businesses, such as cable-television companies and Internet service providers.
The federal government has joined the ranks of the bottom-of-the-barrel industries, according to a new survey from the American Customer Satisfaction Index. Americans’ satisfaction level in dealing with federal agencies –everything from Treasury to Homeland Security — has fallen for a third consecutive year, reaching an eight-year low.
So if we are all so fed up with the way that things are running, it should be easy to fix right?
Unfortunately, things are not so simple.
In America today, we are more divided as a nation than ever. If you ask 100 different people how we should fix this country, you are going to get 100 very different answers. We no longer have a single shared set of values or principles that unites us, and therefore it is going to be nearly impossible for us to come together on specific solutions.
You would think that the principles enshrined in the U.S. Constitution should be able to unite us, but sadly those days are long gone. In fact, the word “constitutionalist†has become almost synonymous with “terrorist†in our nation. If you go around calling yourself a “constitutionalist†in America today, there is a good chance that you will be dismissed as a radical right-wing wacko that probably needs to be locked up.
The increasing division in our nation can be seen very clearly during this election season.

Reagan’s first mistake finally laid to rest.
Maybe Mommy! will put a band aid on it for him.
We haven't seen the last of Bush.
I am really worried about Trump’s VP pick, he could really screw that up like Reagen did.
But for Reagan, there would be no talk of a Bush “dynasty”. GHW Bush had won a single election before running for president in 1980 against Reagan - a safe House seat in a wealthy area of Houston. He had lost a Texas senate race against Lloyd Bentsen and then held a number of appointed sinecures granted by Nixon and Gerry Ford. He won the presidency in 1988 on the strength of providing Reagan’s third term and when he piddled away all of that, much of the party realized there wasn’t a lot there and voted for Perot or stayed home. His son, GW, ran with an emphasis on conservative; the Base thought they saw another Reagan but he certainly didn’t govern that way and from his comments since he left office, I really doubt he ever had much use for us. In my view, JEB’s problem is that the Bush family long ago used up whatever goodwill they had in the Party and now the Bushes are reduced to accepting plaudits from leftwing outfits like The Atlantic and Hillary Clinton, who like them because they are really not much different than they are, can be counted on to trash the conservative base for a few outlier quotes, and if they do get elected will be utterly ineffectual.
The Bush family also did everything they could to prevent Ronald Reagan from being the nominee in 1980.
Go home, Jeb, and run for dog catcher or something.
But it’s clear Trump has indeed sharpened him: Bush is pointedly energetic these days, to a degree that’s almost hyper.
