How Donald Trump Broke the GOP’s Music Curse (he keeps playing Adele even after she complains)
Politico ^ | Feb 7 2016 | Review Troy

Donald Trump has been blowing up the old traditional GOP certainties left and right, and this week he overturned another one. In what seemed like an embarrassing rebuke, on February 1, Adele told the Republican front-runner that he didn’t have her permission to use her songs at his massive campaign events. Adele might just be the world’s most popular singer at the moment, and any normal candidate would have folded his tent, chastened. Not Trump. At his rally in Little Rock, Arkansas two days later the crowd of thousands listened to Adele’s “Skyfall” before Trump’s helicopter landed. A day after that, in Exeter, New Hampshire, Adele’s “Rolling In the Deep” could be heard blaring behind the candidate when he made his entrance

She can complain, but as long as he pays the royalties, there’s nothing more she can do.

These phonyass “celebrities” need to just shut up and do their crying on the way to the bank. I would have never purchased a Pretenders CD if it hadn’t been for Rush Limbaugh.

Although the youtube vids can be shut down if there is a copyright complaint (and there has been) until the music is taken out.

I am a Cruz supporter, and I sometimes wonder if Trump is a true conservative - but I do absolutely LOVE Trump when he does stuff like this. A huge middle finger to this singer and the hollywood egos!!

He ought to use the “DX” theme song. I’m sure WWE would be OK with it.

This crap comes up in every election. He doesn’t need her permission, all he needs is a public performance license from ASCAP or BMI. Period.

This is just an excuse for left-wing liberal performers to make noise.

Some people wonder if Cruz is a true American.

Like true American, "true conservative" is yet to be defined.

No but it doesn't look great when she makes it clear he's doing it without permission and then publicly repudiates him. Makes him look like jerk.

As I understand it, any music registered with ASCAP is available for public performance so long as the royalties are paid.

Believe it or not, ASCAP actually sends people to public places such as restaurants, bars and retail shops and if they hear music that is protected by copyright and the proprietor is not paying the necessary royalty, he can get assessed a fine and even be sued. I believe businesses have actually been shut down over this.

As well, if I invite you over to a barbeque at my house and I play a Steely Dan record for you or even if I'm rolling down a public street playing it in my car with the windows rolled down, I am legally obliged to pay public performance royalties.

My point is that so long as the necessary royalties are paid for public performance, and they may be hefty if you are playing at a rally with 15,000 people, you are allowed to play the music regardless of the fact that the owner of the music may disagree with you politically.

I'm glad that Trump is taking a stand on this.

I Stand with Ted, BUT this doesn’t make Trump look like a jerk. I like it when he is like this. Another leftist who we pay to dance and sing for us is unhappy. So what? It’s so . . . so . . . so ‘unexpected.’

I don’t think it makes him look like a jerk at all.

These whiney a$$ “artists” only pitch a fit when it is a Republican, so f’em.

Adele needs to put that cigarette out and get another sammitch.

Not really. It’s just one more thing for him to hang his hat on. She makes music and sells it. Maybe she should tell all non-liberals not to buy her music.
