Cruz blocks nominees to the State Depart for a third time [Cruz's Senate "enemies?" help the cause]

...Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), however, objected, and said he was doing so on behalf of Cruz, who has spent much of the last week campaigning in New Hampshire where he is trailing businessman Donald Trump ahead of Tuesday's primary.

Klobuchar slammed Cruz after McConnell's move, saying the Texas Republican was the only remaining hurdle to getting the ambassador nominations confirmed.

"We ask him to remove these holds. He has not voiced any concerns about these individual nominees. He voiced concerns about unrelated policy issues," she said, noting that Cruz hasn't been in the Senate to object to the nominees himself.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) tried on Monday evening to get unanimous consent to confirm Samuel Heins to be ambassador to Norway and Azita Raji to be ambassador to Sweden....

Klobuchar, Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Ben Cardin (D-Md.) have each tried to pass State Department nominations over the past week but were blocked by a senator objecting on behalf of Cruz.

Klobuchar added on Monday that she and Shaheen are planning to "come to the floor every single day and make the case for these countries."

Cardin called Cruz's objections a "master class in needless partisan obstruction."

Feb 3, 2016: Cruz blocks State Department nominees

.....Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), however, objected to each of the nominations, noting that he was doing so on behalf of Cruz. The presidential candidate has pledged to block State Department nominees over the Iran nuclear deal.

Cardin called Cruz's objections a "master class in needless partisan obstruction."

The Maryland Democrat, the ranking member of the Foreign Relations Committee, added that if senators won't stop blocking nominations then Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) should file cloture, which would force a procedural vote.

Shaheen said that it was "ironic" that the nominations are "being held up in many cases by a member of this body that's out on the campaign trail."

"He's not here dealing with the work of the country," she added, saying the nominations were being "held up for political reasons."

It's not the first time Cruz has blocked State Department nominations.

Cardin previously tried to get consent to pass seven State nominations late last year, but the Texas Republican objected then, too.

What are the two unrelated disagreements referenced here?

Retaliation for the Iran deal.

I'm sure Norway and Sweden are coping just fine without an American State Department Ambassador. After all, we've shoved a hundred thousand Islamic refugees into their societies, I'm sure they might be just fine ambassadors for Obama's State Department.

Too bad Teddy did not block his buddy Roberts appointment to the Supreme Court.

Cruz is an outstanding Senator.

Despite the Primary battle, let’s not lose sight of his Senatorial efforts.

Just doing the job that Ted Cruz is paid to do! Teddy Bare ays he really cares about the military and veterans, doesn't he? Is he a hypocrite and just a liar?

From Politico...

Ted Cruz came to Washington two-and-a-half years ago pledging to be the anti-senator. But he’s been more like the no-show senator. The Texas Republican seriously lags most of his colleagues in attending hearings and casting votes in what has been a Senate career long on rhetoric and short on Senate business. ...

... He's skipped the vast majority of Armed Services Committee hearings, is below-average in attendance on his other major committees and ranks 97th during the first three months of this year in showing up for roll call votes on the Senate floor. This was a good move by Cruz (or his stand-ins), one that I’d expect my own Senators here in Georgia to block.

Azita Raji is IRANIAN born, and while maybe an American citizen, I don’t believe she would represent the collective United States - especially in Sweden where they are over run with rabid Muslims wreaking havoc on their populace.

IMO she would be there to represent Obama’s Islamic interests as well as gloss-over issues tamping down local criticism of Muslims there.

GOOD MOVE.

How about the senate uses the internet to read legislation and cast their votes? I really don't see any benefit to their being in Washington DC?

That goes for both legislative bodies.

Nice spin but the Senate Republicans have been tag-teaming for fellow Senator, Ted Cruz.

Sen Lee had done the same thing on Feb. 3, 2016.

When Democrat Ben Cardin called on McConnell to “file cloture, which would force a procedural vote,” Mitch McConnell personally filled in and objected for Cruz and blocked it again.

“....That $100,000 gift from Trump to the Boehner-allied super PAC was twice as big as his next-biggest contributions. [Trump’s] given $50,000 .. to Karl Rove’s American Crossroads (2010) [and $50,000 to] the pro-Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) Kentuckians for Strong Leadership (2013)...

And then Trump gave McConnell’s PAC another $10,000 in Nov 2014.

I don't disagree, BUT...

My point is that Teddy, like Obama, lied to the people who hired him to represent him. All of the so-righteous people who support Teddy seem to give him a pass on the ethics of this. It is a deceitful way to advance himself. He isn't doing this for the people. It is obvious he is doing it for Teddy!

As the article stated ( and lots of other articles from a quick search), he hasn't attended many of his responsibilities as a Senator. Will he also spend a lot of time in Hawaii at Christmas, like his mentor, and jet all over the world?

I dislike the guy now. I once supported him, before I actually got to see him for what he is. He is an opportunist that had a youthful dream that he should be the POTUS. Yet, he doesn't even give time to advance our military, nor supports our vets with more than lip service. He has not been doing the job.

That's his biggest problem for me. He has a lot to say, but his actions speak loud! Too loud for me to ever vote for the smarmy lawyer from Canada!

DonaldTrump is far from perfect. But, he isn't afraid to tell people what he is thinking. I like that. I have gotten in a lot of trouble here on FR for that. I guess I follow a leader!

Wouldn’t that have been a trick. Cruz was not in the Senate when Roberts was nominated and confirmed.

The Right Stuff

by TED CRUZ July 20, 2005 2:32 PM

n 1995, while clerking for Chief Justice William Rehnquist, I and my two fellow law clerks asked the chief whom he thought was the best Supreme Court lawyer currently practicing. The chief replied, with a twinkle in his eye, that he thought he could probably get a majority of his colleagues to agree that John Roberts was the best Supreme Court advocate in the nation.

Hey Patq,

Does your mom have your breakfast ready? And shouldn’t you be getting ready for school?

Listen here Noob, Cruz was not even in the Senate when Roberts was appointed to the Supreme Court. Don’t let not facts get in the way of your utter stupidity.

Go on and get ready to catch the short bus to school and ask your teachers to give you a lesson in civics.
