Wounded Warrior Project executives fired amid controversy

The board of the Wounded Warrior Project, one of the largest veteran support organizations in the country, has fired the nonprofit’s chief executive officer and the chief operating officer, according to a statement released by a public relations firm on behalf of the embattled organization.

The departure of two top executives, CEO Steven Nardizzi and COO Al Giordano, comes at a time when the wounded veteran-focused organization is awash in controversy amid news reports accusing the group of wasteful spending.

The statement by the PR firm, Abernathy MacGregor, said a preliminary financial audit found that “some policies, procedures and controls at WWP have not kept pace with the organization’s rapid growth in recent years and are in need of strengthening.”

According to Wounded Warrior Project tax forms obtained by a CBS News investigation, the organization spent $26 million on conferences and meetings in 2014, up from $1.7 million in 2010.

The CBS report also talked to numerous former employees that accused the organization of making money off their injuries.

Good in concept and early execution of charity.

I hope WWP recovers and demonstrates that it has returned to it's roots. It devolved when a few greedy anal orfices decided it was their travel club.

This is what I’ve been saying for years. 99% charities are frauds. They exist to pay salaries for administrators and not there to help those who truly need help

This is a bad story getting worse. A number of people on FR have been warning about these two guys for some time. They have been living large on the backs of wounded warriors.

They are one of the worst for donation pass through. I did some research on them with a program they were introducing in my area. I would not recommend them.

It hasn’t been hard to understand.
Charity Navigator and several other sites continuously audit charities a d report on how the money is spent.

Always use an auditing site before you donate cash, and when one is in the news you should look them up and see how they spend the money that comes in.

I recall some people getting bent out of shape that Trump did not include that specific charity as a potential recipient in his alternative to a FOX debate, a “fund raiser” for Veterans organizations.
hmmmmmm

IIRC, these top executives were riding the charity gravy train, living the good company seminar life on the backs of disabled Vets and Wounded Warrior donors. Good riddance.
Time for a major shake up.

Good organization.

I donate to them and to my church and to my church’s food pantry. Every Thursday the pantry serves about 100 families. Mostly canned goods and packaged, occasionally meat, dairy and eggs. Meat being a budget killer.
