Donald Trump’s announcement that he no longer stands by a pledge to support the GOP has thrown his hold on South Carolina’s 50 delegates in doubt.
The Palmetto State was one of several that required candidates to pledge their loyalty to the party’s eventual nominee in order to secure a slot on the primary ballot. Though Trump won all of the state’s delegates in the Feb. 20 primary, anti-Trump forces are plotting to contest their binding to Trump because of his threat on the pledge Tuesday.
The loyalty pledge is nothing new in South Carolina, where it has been required for decades, but took on new focus in light of Trump’s public musings about a third party run or withdrawing his support from the eventual nominee if he is stopped at a contested convention.
When asked about if he still would pledge to support the eventual Republican nominee during a town hall Tuesday with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Trump said “No. I don’t anymore,” adding that he has been “treated very unfairly.”

Its crazy. Emissaries from the GOP like Romney have been shouting to the world they will not support Trump. Now they want to say he broke a pledge?
Well, there is just one difference. The article did not say that once the delegates were selected that the would be barred from voting for any of the candidates who broke the pledge. It states that they would not be bound to that candidate on the first ballot. It would just mean that per the rules, the 50 delegates would go into the convention with the ability to vote for whomever.

Trump always said that he would support the eventual GOP nominee "so long as he's treated fairly." The entire non-Trump wing of the GOP is saying to Trump supporters "our way or the highway."
If they can all chant "party unity" when they run McCain and Mittens against the wishes of the base but then in effect support the Rats when they don't get their way - well, they can all take a flying leap at the moon.
I like Cruz, I really do. But at this point I feel compelled to support Trump just to stick a finger in the eye of the GOPe elites.
For some reason, the few hundred or so GOPe establishment cronies in Washington think their numbers are greater than than the number of real, everyday, working Americans who are in dire need of change in Washington...

Cruz danced around with his answer, but never came out and said he wouldn’t. Instead he said that he was going to be the nominee.
Cruz has no South Carolina delegates.
State rules apply, and state rules vary widely.

South Carolina is solidly behind Trump and will remain that way for years and years. No one is going anywhere.
This is just another mediocre nobody meeting a deadline to follow marching orders and write something of FUD about Trump.
FUD = Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt
The delegates become unbound.

It’s not that they will re-assigned to another candidate, that won’t happen. It’s just that it’s possible that they will be unbound on the first vote and can vote for any candidate.
Ah, but the question is - which of the others would pick up those delegates, since EVERY one of them has “threatened” to not support the nominee.
