Greenpeace: Leaked TTIP papers show 'threat' to EU

Greenpeace charged on Monday that a massive US-EU trade deal would place corporate interests above the environment and consumer safety, as it released classified documents from the negotiations. […]

Greenpeace said the papers show, for example, that the US wants to be able to scrap existing EU rules in areas such as food labeling or approval of dangerous chemicals if it they spell barriers to free trade.

“TTIP is about a huge transfer of power from people to big business,” the group argued, having also projected an image of a classified text passage onto the façade of Berlin’s parliament building. …

Funny how Greenpeace calls government “(the) people”. Of course, what with the left in control of “big business”, they are the government too.

Corporations are beholden to government as it government that grants them legal status as a person especially as a taxable entity. A teenager-parent relationship exists between them and therefore lots of rules exist to live in the American house. Corps can’t get the car keys and spending money for a Friday night date without Congressional and presidential approval.

They are right for all the wrong reasons. It may be a benefit to big business but the histrionics over labeling and dangerous chemicals is just that. Most of the EU policies are designed to keep competition out.
