The reason people believe this is because they regard religion as a product of ethno-culture. Since all ethno-cultures are equal, therefore all religions are equal.
Most people simply cannot fathom the idea of a religion being objectively and universally true. They dogmatically reject the idea that somewhere is a religion that is not the product of "mankind's religious creativity" but was revealed by A-mighty G-d Himself. And it also doesn't help that conservatives have joined liberals in confusing religion with ethno-culture and/or civilization. Conservatives have also begun defending religion by appealing to secular "enlightenment" standards; ie, chrstianity is better than islam because it is more enlightened and tolerant. This has nothing to do with whether a religion is true or not.
Conservatives need to drop the civilizationism/racialism and get back on board with G-d--the One True G-d!
