Down a justice, John Roberts looks to find compromise, avoid 4-4 ties

Washington (CNN)The Supreme Court is in the home stretch of an unexpected term, racing to issue opinions in more than 30 cases, many that were impacted by the sudden death of Justice Antonin Scalia. At the center of it all is Chief Justice John Roberts, facing perhaps one of the the greatest challenges of his 10-plus year tenure -- navigating a series of issues such as abortion access, health care, affirmative action and immigration with a court comprised of four liberal and four conservative justices.

Early in his tenure, Roberts said that promoting unanimity and collegiality were a priority. He's had successes in cases and had more of a bumpy ride in others such as the 5-4 decision upholding Obamacare. How he deals with the possibility of a deadlocked court with the backdrop of a contentious election and the controversy surrounding the nomination of Scalia's replacement could say much about Roberts' leadership. When the court is evenly divided it simply affirms the lower court opinion and sets no national precedent. It's as if the court never even heard the case. "The chief has made clear how much he cares about preserving the court's legitimacy in these polarized times, and this term will be a real test of that vision, " said Jeffrey Rosen, president and CEO of the National Constitution Center, a

Yup, the Conservatives ALWAYS seek compromise; a losing strategy.

CNN greasing the skids for him to flop to the Left a few more times this term.

Don’t make a problem that’s not there. Affirm the lower court and let them come back when there’s a full court.

The Washington Redskins should remain their Team The “Washington Cavemen” in honor of the Republicans, because there is no Issue they won’t cave on.

He knows a 4-4 tie can be a win for conservatives in certain key cases.

The judges that the Bushes appointed have been a big disappointment. Let’s hold any positive comments concerning the Bushes to a minimum here please.

Additionally, Cruz supported Roberts. I don’t believe Trump could do any worse appointing judges.

The elephant in the room: the SCOTUS does not rule on the law - it rules on the political viewpoint. The Rats on the bench 99% of the time, rule on politics only. No justice, no rule of law, just politics all the time.

Roberts is being blackmailed it is that simple. the Obama administration and Hillary have something on him. originally I think the black mail was about his illegal adoption. I think once someone has been blackmailed it becomes easier to blackmail them and those doing it will dig into them even more looking for something even worse to hold over there head.

His priority should be INTEGRITY OF THE CONSTITUTION. We KNOW where this clown will go and why - his adopted kid threatened with repatriation if he crosses Obama.

With what I have learned about the Bushes, they put people they can control into power. That is the top priority. Second priority is “appearance of conservative creds” to fool conservative citizens and voters.

R’Robert’s leadership’

ROBERT’S LEADERSHIP??? WHAT LEADERSHIP?? He rolls over every time for whatever the Marxists/Obama want/s! I remember when he was up for confirmation and that picture of him at the ‘pizza party’ surfaced. I wondered if the promoters of that picture were trying to scare Republicans or soothe Democrats.....made me wonder back then where his ideology lay. He has proven himself easily manipulated and wishy-washy, usually favoring Leftists. Could Trump picks be worse? I suppose so, but I do believe Trump LOVES this country.....so I will withhold judgement for now.

Roberts seeks to give the communists a 5-3 Court. If the nation does not waken from its dream that the Court is the God given interpreter of the Constitution we will find that the election makes no difference at all because the rulers of the nation are the USSC. Thankfully, Roberts’ new found Leftism will only pertain until the election of Trump if such should happen. The source of his wobbliness appears to be his reliance on Dilantin. Dilantin progressively saps perception and destroys will power. Dilantin should be a no exceptions disqualification for jobs requiring independence of mind.

Roberts doesn’t really have to be blackmailed. He takes Dilantin. After a few years on that substance, one’s seizures are controlled but one has lost one’s will power. It would only take some pressure to bend one’s decisions.
