5 Things From Texas GOP Meeting (#5 Secede doesn't Succeed)
CBS- DFW / AP ^ | May 15, 2016

The Texas Republican Convention began under a “Unite to Win” banner but ended with many delegates still standoffish toward Donald Trump and mourning Ted Cruz’s exit from the Republican presidential race. A rundown of one of the biggest state Republican conventions in the U.S. that wrapped up Saturday:

1. CRUZ STAYS SILENT ON TRUMP

Cruz didn’t mention Trump and barely alluded to November in his first public event back home since suspending his campaign. He continues to withhold endorsing his former rival even as Gov. Greg Abbott and most other state officials urged delegates to get behind the billionaire businessman. Cruz told a convention hall of hardcore supporters that he didn’t know “what the future holds.”

2. TRUMP SENDS A SURROGATE

The job of winning over Trump-bashing Texas delegates fell to U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, who snubbed Cruz and backed Trump long before his Senate colleague dropped out. Sessions got big applause upon recalling Trump’s promise for another border wall, saying “Isn’t that conservative?” to a crowd largely skeptical of Trump’s faithfulness to Republican principles. Before Sessions took the stage, the party chairman implored delegates heading for the exits following Cruz’s speech to stick around.

But every time they vote on it, it gets an extra vote or two. Sooner or later it will pass.

I’m starting to think that Rick Perry wouldn’t be such a bad choice as running mate, to bring Texas in.

This should be taken as an opportunity to shed a host of other Federal Education shackles. It lies with in the realm of possibility that shedding the other shackles can save enough money to replace that which was withheld

#3 - As if money just somehow magically appears from FedGov. “Hey peons, you give us 1/4 of what you earn in a year and if you’re well behaved little peons and do everything we tell you to, we’ll give some of it to the other little peons in your state that have given us nothing.”

I think he might be quite good in that role.

Texas hasn’t voted for the democrat nominee for President
since 1976 and they won’t start with Hillary this time.

IOW he’s still got something dastardly up his sleeve. Keep an eye on him at the convention... eh?

Perry might be great in that roll but if Trump is not going to win Texas without Rick, his winning is a lost cause IMO.

Trump must carry the son of the mailman state, Fla, Pa and perhaps take at least one of the mid cap states that were slightly blue to win.

It is interesting to also note that some of those needed states are either headed up by a dem (Va comes to mind), or have a RINO or GOPe person in high office (Wisc and Ohio) come to mind.

If the press were not so one sided and if the GOPe and nottrump crowd were not so intransigent, in this election against Hitlery, it would be a walkover for Trump. He has got to work hard for it IMO.

Perfect summation.

Which president started this concept? I remember President Nixon calling his new idea “Revenue Sharing”.

No need to take on an open borders RINO like Perry. Texas is already Trump country. Hillary will not win here.

Most Texas conservatives will tell you that Rick Perry is an establishment tool. We know him better than the rest of the country.

When you compare the intellects of Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich, there really is no comparison. Perry is a lightweight!

Other states should follow suit. Regain control of their education programs. Ditch the mounds of federal paperwork requirements.
