KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) – The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro Moros, arrived in the island last night for a working visit.

He was met on arrival at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, among other dignitaries.

Venezuela is in the final stage of total economic collapse. The army has been ordered out in force. And a former major general (Ordenes) is demanding that the recall election be allowed to proceed. And yet...Maduro takes time out to visit Jamaica? What's up with this? Does Maduro keep his personal money stash hidden away in Jamaica?

Anybody out there have any theories as to this BIZARRE visit to Jamaica in the middle of the WORST crises ever in Venezuela?

Dictators are more comfortable if they know that the back door is still available.

That a coup was imminent, and he's not going back?

He’s making sure all of his off-shore and off the record accounts are in order. Also a test run of his bolt-hole organization. Might even shop for a nice villa while he’s there.

So, is Jamaica the last refuge of this Marxist scoundrel?

“So, is Jamaica the last refuge of this Marxist scoundrel?”

If not, it’s at least easier to get a plane out of Kingston than under fire in Caracas.

Making sure all is ready for his hasty exit from Venezuela when the coup happens-offshore bank accounts and investments, real estate purchased and bribes paid for lifetime asylum in Jamaica, etc...

“working visit.” To do whose work? His own, the people of Venezuela? Whenever you see this concerning a head of state, it is a lie, a euphemism for a bigger lie.

Good way for him to stay alive. Former dictators don’t fare well in coups or revolutions.

He sure isn’t keeping his money in the form of worthless Bolivares. Most likely it is in DOLLARS and in a nice safe Cayman’s account.

I tell people to eat like just a couple of slices of bread per day and after a week you will know what millions of Venezuelans feel like right now with almost no food available. Plus you can’t even drink your sorrows away since beer is no longer being produced there. A hungry, angry populace without even the cushion of a minor beer buzz is something that is almost impossible to counter.

When the army can’t eat there will be blood. I have a feeling Maduro won’t be heading back to Venezuela anytime soon. Anyone know where the Castros keep their stash?

What this calls for is more socialism.
