It can happen pretty quick here, especially if there is a lot of rain upstream and not here but this place has been like Seattle without the Lesbians for over a month now...
Just this morning I received an e-mail from a friend down there who told me it took an hour and a half to find enough unflooded roads to go out to get something to eat Sun.
She said she reminded God that he promised to never again destroy the earth by flood.
Depth markers don’t account for the erosion that often occurs instantaneously in a flash flood. I’ve seen six-foot torches cut through the desert in minutes. A stream that appears to be slightly higher than the road may be deep enough to swamp a vehicle.
My prayers to the families.
Prayers.
A full grown can or a immature one?
Low water crossings in Texas and Oklahoma can be paved fords. Rule of thumb - if it reaches the bottom of the frame, go back. But it’s probably going to wash off your tires.
Seattle..Fort Lewis-McChord just south...mostly just drizzles...serious flooding in this area caused by mountain snow melt ...rarely by heavy rain in the lowlands.
BTW, I liked it so much I volunteered to go to Sinai for 6 months.
Texas is a land of constant drought interrupted by Biblical floods.
I’m on the eastern side of the state — more like Texas in the dry season.
Everyone in my unit thought I was nuts, loved the Yak Attack (Field Exercises in Yakima) We always set up at Moses Lake.
Well...just saw on the news that the soldiers who drowned just came back from Korea.
Korea is kind of famous for its rainy season. As a result, it was routine to drive through deep water. One poor Captain lost a HMMWV...and more importantly the frequency hopping radio loaded with a code was never recovered.
Anyway, exactly as I feared, these soldiers were too used to crossing creeks in Korea and didn’t understand the danger.
I can see that happening. A perfect storm of circumstance, so to speak. Very unfortunate.
