UPDATE: The Senate has voted to stop legislation that would have closed the gun show loophole and expanded background checks.

The measure was sponsored by Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, who waged a nearly 15-hour filibuster last week to push for votes after the massacre in Orlando, Florida. The vote Monday was 44-56. It fell 16 short of the 60 necessary for the Senate to move ahead on the legislation.

Anyone who has done even the slightest bit of historical reading on Prohibition or the War on Drugs or the War on Anything would know that someone who wants a product and will pay to get it, will get it. That cannot be stopped. Laws only work for the law abiding, not the non-law abiding.

That one would prevent due process, would included chances of errors being made and might be abused to hurt innocent people. It must be stopped.

For example, what if an innocent person were being immediately threatened with deadly harm by dangerous animal predators or nearby violent criminals and wanted a weapon for self-defense or defense of the lives of children in the household? To prevent them from defending themselves or their loved ones would be murderous.
