Putin’s Russia is a poor, drunk soccer hooligan
Boston Globe ^ | 06-22-2016 | Scott Gilmore

Posted on 06/22/2016 9:54:15 AM PDT by NRx

Russia is not the country you think it is. Its economy is smaller than South Korea’s. Its people are poorer than Kazakhstan’s. It trails Finland in technology. And it has a smaller military budget than Saudi Arabia...

...Russia hosted the Olympics, punched Georgia in the nose, took back the Crimea, invaded Ukraine, flew bombers through NATO airspace, built military bases in the Arctic, and generally flexed and posed like an oiled, aged, but still buff, body builder. And we’ve been paying increasingly rapt attention, not noticing the geriatric walker hidden just off stage. A closer look is almost shocking.

According to the International Monetary Fund’s most recent data, the Russian economy is approximately the same size as Australia and slightly smaller than South Korea. As an exporter, it is now less important than Belgium, Mexico, and Singapore.

And it is poor. The World Bank ranks Russia’s GDP per capita below Lithuania, Equatorial Guinea, and Kazakhstan. A larger proportion of its population lives below the poverty rate than in Indonesia, India, or Sri Lanka. It is ranked 67th in the world in the Global Competitive Index and 66th in the UN’s Human Development Index.

“Its economy is smaller than South Korea’s.”

Bold faced lie. The Russian economy is nearly twice South Korea’s.

Russian GDP: $2.097 trillion.
South Korean GDP: $1.305 Trillion.

If it didn’t have piles of nukes, it wouldn’t be a terror.

Though I’m glad for what they did in Syria, even if it was for self gain.

And they are the ones who cut off the oil for money route to Turkey.

Not heroes by any means, but the enemy of my enemy..etc.

“. It trails Finland in technology”

Another bold faced lie.

Russia has had submarines, satellites, and many other technologies. Finland, not so much. Its first satellite was in, what, 2015?

The headline reads like something Obama wants to believe.
What was it he used to call ISIS? A JV Team, as in Junior Varsity? Yeah, right. We all see who looks to be the ‘junior’ right now, don’t we?

When the USA turns into Venezuela in a few years, this clown from the Boston Globe will be wishing we were the same as Russia is now.

Eliminated in the Euro championship by Wales, which has not been independent for more than 700 years.

There is a great line in A Man for All Seasons, after Thomas More has been found guilty with the help of perjured testimony from Richard Rich, that More notices the medal Rich is wearing and learns that he has been made Secretary of State for Wales. More reminds him of Jesus' words "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul?" and adds, "but for Wales?"

By the way, TCM will be showing A Man for All Seasons tonight (10 p.m. EDT).

Russia has the world’s largest stockpile of nuclear warheads.

That is all that matters.

I don’t have any love lost for Putin, who is a KGB puke. But this article is reaching, and being from the Boston Globe...well, consider the source.

The fact they have nukes is enough to have to take them seriously, even though they are the enemy of our enemy, they aren’t necessarily our friend, either.

This article is on the money.
My husband and I traveled to St. Petersburg, just to see Russia. We KNEW that Moscow was a waste of time.
St. Petersburg was VERY expensive, with NO hot water in the expensive hotels, mediocre and VERY expensive food...and the knockoff Louvre, the "Hermitage" was a waste of time. BETTER to go to Paris.

My husband needed a wheelchair to go through the Hermitage so we got one. However, the GUIDE had to surrender HER passport as the insurance that the wheelchair would be returned. SAD, very sad.

Russia is a MESS. Always was and probably always will be. Their newspaper, Pravda, which means "truth" is a lying pact of print.

Wishful thinking from the left. The truth is that Putin is pulverizing this administration and NWO nearly everywhere.

You read something from the Boston Globe and then mention Pravda.

I see what you did there.

Boston Globe like all of the other Obama propaganda outlets is required to belittle possible allies and aggrandize our enemies.
I am damn sure I would have Putin as an ally, maybe not a friend but an ally than I would any son-of a bitch in the Mid East or Africa.
Thank you very much.

I have one added thought. Question really.
How do US astronauts get to and from the much ballyhooed Space Station?
Just curious.
