It was truly the return of British prominence under Thatcher. Even Reagan stepped aside, and actually apologized to Thatcher for making a statement about possible U.S. intervention in the war.

Won’t need to, Argyles have no way of getting troops there other than a cruise ship.

I took a photo of 3 British Frigates entering Norfolk during the war. I have been looking for it for a few months with no luck.

I am sure one of them must have been the Sheffield. Anyway the fact that they were probably refueling and resupplying makes it clear that we supported them.

War is the ultimate negotiator, and there the answer was, “Hell no”.

May have to kick some more Argentine ass...

So you take the side of a European Monarchy over the free people of Argentina. You can own guns in Argentina even machine guns, try that in jolly old England

I'll stand with San Martin and the Monroe Doctrine over the Queen any day.

Then you’re standing against history and with socialists. Not to mention standing against the free people of the Falklands who do not want Argentine hegemony.

PS. Supporting socialists and supporting the Monroe Doctrine are mutually exclusive.

The negotiations happened when Argentina fought a war to take the Falklands and LOST.

Too bad, so sad.

Time to let go of the last crumbles of their long-ago-lost empire. They should let go of Ulster too.

The Brits couldn’t do it today. They have zero air assets that can fly from a carrier. They have zero strategic bombers. They have 6 Destroyers and 13 Frigates in the entire Royal Navy. They have a grand total of 7600 Marines.

The Brits have simply lost the ability to force an operation again. They can have a few fighters on the Islands, but simply don’t have the range to hit the mainland with anything more than a fighter bomber at the extreme end of its range.

The good news is that the Argies have also basically disarmed too. They don’t have nearly the ability to invade that they did before. Their navy is a shambles. Their Air Force doesn’t have its Falklands war capability.

So its basically a stalemate. An Argentina that cant attack vs a UK that couldn’t dislodge them if they did.

And let other empires rise in their place?

Six counties of Ulster are in the UK by choice. Although, frankly, the EU considers them all united, barring the possible results of the Brexit referendum. I really am sorry to see that you want to see Ulster, never mind the other provinces, subjugated to Brussels.

Actually today its all over oil in the areas surrounding the islands. Not right there, but a hundred plus miles away.

Similar to the dispute in the Spratleys. Everyone wants to drill.

Six counties of Ulster are in the UK by choice.

Of course the Brits who live there want to remain in Britain. Let all of Ireland vote on Irish sovereignty.

I'll stand with San Martin and the Monroe Doctrine over the Queen any day.

The Monroe Doctrine had no standing over the Falklands. It stated that no new European powers should intervene in the newly-independent Latin American countries. However, the Falklands had no allegiance to Argentina and weren't even a developed country until the UK settled it.

I read up on it during the war. Details are gone, but I do remember the Argentines having zilch in legit claims compared to the Brits.
