A veteran Texas sheriff's deputy who was set to retire in September was shot at his Round Rock home early Monday morning and later died from his injuries, officials said, announcing that they were searching for two suspects.

Sgt. Craig Hutchinson, who was on the force for 32 years, he used his law enforcement radio to call for help shortly before 1:30 a.m., and responding officers found Hutchinson laying in the back yard of his home, Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton said during a Monday news conference.

"He was my field training officer," Hamilton said."So this is near and dear to me. This guy was a big teddy bear and everybody loved him. He was a gentle bear and he taught me everything I know...I loved that guy to death."

From what I have read, there does not seem to be any clues as to who did this or the various departments are not releasing the information.

However, burglary suspects are usually of the same race as the majority of the people in the neighborhoods they rob.

The most important thing to them is to not be noticed, they want to blend in.

Burglars don't rob; they commit burglary. Robbing is stealing from someone using force. Not trying to be a smart a$p. just pointing it out...: )

As former LEO I can say that's not always true. Smart burglars tend to visit neighborhoods where the gettin's good and they know white people aren't as security conscious leaving windows and back doors unlocked. Easy pickins. It used to be that security cameras were used primarily in white household, however that's changed now there are cheap alternatives that you can buy online and at places like Fry's.

There will be clues which will soon lead to the suspects ID. Like possible spent casings, a bullet. And they'll pull every street view video within 2 miles of the location. It was about 130 a.m. Not too much traffic then. Plus they're not saying if the LEO provided any description on the suspects, vehicles etc when he called it in. And what did the neighbors see after the shot?

They have to be tight lipped here. They don't want to spook these SOBs into the tall grass. I'm confident they will get these guys.

Good point, robbery is violent and that's why Joe Friday usually worked in the Robery-Homicide division.

How does this theory sound to you as a former LEO?

It's very early Monday morning and it was hot but as it would be in the afternoon when it gets to 100-102. And being that it is summer, kids are out of school. Two 16 to 19 year old bad boys in that same neighborhood only go out late to avoid heat and have two options of things to do. They can do something bad or they can do something stupid. When they do bad and stupid at the same time, there are big problems.

Furthermore, they are armatures and armatures may not want to burglar a house, and instead pick a shed in the back yard. Teenage boys like tools, bikes and lawn equipment.

Before they leave the house, The smart one grabs his dad's tools. The dumb kid grabs his dad's gun.

They break into the shed and the dumb kid is scared and when the deputy comes home, the dumb kid gets more scared and a lot dumber.
Dumb kid shoots the deputy.

They run back to their houses. The house(s) are close as no one wants to run among way in the heat, especially when Round Rock Police, Austin Police and two, sheriffs departments looking for you.

Your perps are in a house within 3 blocks of the murder scene, and they are crapping in their pants.

And by this point they are being protected by their parents.

Not another one.

Prayers up for the family and that this absolute madness will stop.

Can a society sink much lower than this? Police officers being murdered all over the place? What was once a rarity is becoming a daily event. We are in serious trouble.

“Furthermore, they are armatures and armatures may not want to burglar a house”.......

Are these “armatures” from electric or gasoline powered motors/engines? I would suggest the word “amateurs” might be more appropriate. (Nothing personal but spell check doesn’t get ‘em all).

I read it. You have quite an imagination and lack basic spelling skills. And the poster did not make a, “Good point”, but instead provided you a factual description of the term, “Robbery”.

That begs the question, wouldn't poor spelling skills or misspelled words not trigger or activate auto-correct software technology? ☺
