They not only misreport on it being a "homemade clock" they also misreport on it being mistaken for a bomb - it was believed to be a hoax bomb - it was a dismantled clock placed inside a pencil case of a briefcase design. The time display was not visible to the outside of the case.

Well I put together the facts recently as I found the about this family so here's my summation of how i see the whole picture to date:

......His mom and four of his siblings remain in Qatar, only father and son returned.

....Their family 'friend' is Anthony Bond, the founder of the Irving NAACP....who they contacted 'first on arrival' back.....Bond said:....." Let’s call the media." ($$$)

.....A news release was sent out by the family and its supporters:.... ..."Clock Boy is back, and ready to be interviewed." ($$$$)

.....‘Clock boy’s father is a Islamic Imam. ....the kid claims he's "lost his creativity".....

....Family was previously denied 15 million in compensation they demanded.... .... ....School and district will vigorously fight this case as well as they did the last.

A call and invitation to the Whitehouse by Obama personally.

A Google invitation to the Google Science Fair...and meeting with Mark Zuckerbee.

A personal Visit to NASA.

A personal visit to the president of his home country of Sudan. ( a wanted criminal)

amd various other meetings with news, politicians and others of notoriety.

The kid and family see themselves as "famous" and therefore have become "Photo and news seekers".....(classmates say he's an attention seeker)

In this day and age what's so special about 'building' a digital clock? Digital clocks are everywhere, in virtually everything electronic ... the technology has already been 'invented' ....

Back in the early 70's you could build a 'digital clock' from the (then) nascent Signetics 555 integrated circuit, an LED display, and a handful of standard electronic components ... or you could build one from a kit ... or you could buy a clock-radio at the local Korvettes ...

So how does this kid from Qatar suddenly become a 'genius' just because he built, (or disassembled from), an already existing and highly developed technology ??

Heck, if there were no digital clocks, then Free Republic wouldn't even exist in its current form !!
