Of Course: Obama Defends Kaepernick's Refusal to Stand For The National Anthem

Speaking at the G20 Summit in China Monday, President Obama weighed in on 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's refusal to stand for the National Anthem before games, saying the "young man" is simply exercising his constitutional rights. Obama also said Kaepernick's actions are hard for military members and those who have served to "get past."

"My understanding at least is that he’s exercising his constitutional right to make a statement," Obama said. "If nothing else what he’s done is he’s generated more conversation around some topics that need to be talked about."

"As a general matter when it comes to the flag and the National Anthem and the meaning that holds for our men and women in uniform and those who've fought for us, that is a tough thing for them to get past to then hear what his deeper concerns are," he continued.

Not once did Obama say Kaepernick's actions were disrespectful, but instead credited him for bringing attention to an issue and for being part of the process.

Obama: Kaepernick Utilizing Constitutional Right

Obama said he hasn't been "thinking about football much," so maybe he missed a Kaepernick's socks: pigs in police hats.

The Santa Clara Police Union has threatened not to provide security services at future games and 49ers fans have been burning Kaepernick jerseys.

NBC Bay Area obtained a letter, penned by union members, to the San Francisco 49ers stating that if the organization does not take action against Kaepernick, "it could result in police officers choosing not to work at your facilities."

The Santa Clara Police Department is the lead police agency at Levi’s Stadium. During 49er games, around 70 officers volunteer to work and are paid as security personnel. Now it is unknown whether more than half of those officers will show up at the team's next game on Sept. 12.

This photo did come to mind. I guess others can also show their constituional rights and not go to any SF games. And, they could just leave off the national anthem and save a little money, and folks from trying to be stars.

The SCPU can shove its threat up its ass.

The SCPU picks the pockets of police officers in the form of mandatory dues and uses the money to fund politicians who blame the very same police officers for being cold blooded murderers.

He’s angry about his meetings with Xi and Putin in China, so he comes home to kick Americans, because he knows he can get away with it.

He has got a multimillion dollar contract with the Team he is being employed by to be a performer on game days. Part of the performance is to at least pretend that football is some type of patriotic event. This should have been nipped in the bud the first time that it happened. He should have been told that if he doesn’t uphold this part of his obligation that he will not be allowed to play and his contract will be cancelled. The leadership in the NFL is showing what a spineless bunch of little girls that they are when they are now being led by the nose by this black racist idiot... especially after dozens of police have been killed by people inspired by this nonsense.

Are you for real? Obama only inserts himself into these matters if the “victim” is black. Where is his condemnation for crimes against whites? Why is his righteousness saved for those who don’t deserve it?

You forgot your sarcasm tag. There is no excuse for this spoiled idiot's behavior. We have got dozens of dead cops who were intentionally targeted, including four right where we live that I used to work with. This is deadly serious. Anyone who is taken in by platitudes written by Obama’s leftist advisers is off their rocker.

One of the smartest things the Army ever did was to make young Combat Arms Officers have the additional duty of Funeral Detail Officer.

When I was a Second Lieutenant, I was really fired up to have my Soldiers in combat.

My Sergeants (God bless them!) talked to me about that.

I also served as a Funeral Detail Officer.

One of the duties of a Funeral Detail Officer is to present the folded flag (The Colors) to the widow.

If you want to see a big old Soldier get his heart broke, just watch him present The Colors to a crying widow with a couple of quiet kids hanging on her.

Makes you value your Soldiers more.

It would be wise to remember that us Soldiers bury our friends under that flag.

And we never forget or forgive those who dishonor our dead.

It should be a requirement for Presidential candidates to attend a military funeral.

Great post. I had similar experiences leading those funeral details and being a Survivor Assistance Officer. Those duties really put things into perspective.

Literally on the other side of the world, he knows about this and takes time to opine. Fast and Furious, IRS targeting conservative grops, VA waitlists, three months in, hmm, sorry, doesn’t ring a bell.

< And, they could just leave off the national anthem and save a little money, and folks from trying to be stars.

And if they do, patriot / fans everywhere will refrain from going to professional sporting events, the industry will take a huge hit and will crumble. The homonazis will loved and replace the games with professional drag queen contests and will win. No the America hating a-holes need to be ostracized so much their owners will want to boot them.

As a 29 year (and still active duty) vet, I defend his right to sit. Its political speech and protected by the 1st amendment. I also defend my right to speak against his idiocy and think he's a spoiled baby...and turn off any channel hat has him on it.

How could I forget? The nation elects this guy TWICE anyway. Go figure.

Meanwhile, of course, Obama IS THE REASON Kaepernick is emboldened to Refuse to Stand For The National Anthem.
