Seattle Seahawks Won’t Take A Knee Or Sit During National Anthem
Townhall.com ^ | September 11, 2016 | Matt Vespa

There were rumors that the Seattle Seahawks were going to protest the national anthem. Reports of a good portion, or even the whole team, were going to participate in this act on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks certainly raised some people’s blood pressures, ever since 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to remain seated during the national anthem.

Kaepernick said, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.”

The Seahawks protest though was met with a different reaction due to the day, their season-opener against the Miami Dolphins falls on 9/11, and the fact tat their coach Pete Carroll is a 9/11 truther.

Well, according to wide receiver Doug Baldwin, the team will demonstrate something during the opening ceremonies later this afternoon, but they will remain standing, with arms interlocked to show unity for the cause of freedom and justice (via ESPN):

"We are a team comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds," Baldwin said during the video. "And as a team, we have chosen to stand and interlock arms in unity. We honor those who have fought for the freedom we cherish. And we stand to ensure the riches of freedom and the security of justice for all people. Progress can and will be made only if we stand together."

Baldwin was asked Friday how proud he is of what the Seahawks have planned.

"I'm extremely proud," he said. "I'm excited. Extremely proud. Like I said, it makes me want to cry almost, just how our team has handled this and the discussions we've had and how we've come together. It's been absolutely amazing."

Kickoff is at 4:05 p.m.

It is a shame when a NFL team says that they will not show disrespect to the American flag is considered news.

The country doesn’t oppress black people and people of color. Acts of oppression have taken place within the country. Good things have taken place within the country. None of them apply to the country as a whole.

This is nothing more than blaming someone else for their self-induced failures.

They must have been told that they either stand of they’d be walking. Walking off the field and out of the NFL.

If it really was about oppression, they’d ALL donate every dime of their $$$$$$$$$$$$$ paychecks for the season to the BLM crowd.

We’re waiting..... still waiting.... uh, any time now.... No, didn’t think so. It’s about showing what ahats you all are.

and the fact that their coach Pete Carroll is a 9/11 truther.

This will make me one angstrom closer to supporting Pete.

The NFL also said players couldn’t wear cleats memorializing 9/11. Chalk that up with denying them to support cops and you’ve got a very messed up NFL leadership proving once again it does roll down hill.

Well if they don’t start playing a full game they’re going to lose fans. Once again today, just like last year, Seahawks did absolutely nothing till the waning minutes of the game, before they scored and won it. This was against Miami, not exactly one of the best teams in the country.

“This was against Miami, not exactly one of the best teams in the country.”

Beau and I place our bets each season for our Green Bay Packers. I just changed my ‘L’ to a ‘W’ against the Seahawks later this year. I’m saying Packers 12/4.

The LOSER has to do a gawd-awful chore like cleaning out the mule’s pen, or else eating Liver & Onions for dinner. ;)

A couple of patriots players did the black power fist at the end of the national anthem.
