Fellow FReepers, like many of you, I was appalled today at the disrespect for the national anthem of this country which was displayed by some NFL players on some teams.
I would like to create a list of all NFL teams, along with what their players did during the playing of the national anthem before each NFL game this week.
My team is the Miami Dolphins, and to my dismay, 4 Dolphins players (Arian Foster, Jelani Jenkins, Michael Thomas, and Kenny Stills) took a knee and refused to stand at attention during the playing of our national anthem before the Dolphins-Seahawks game.
In contrast, the Seattle Seahawks stood as a team and locked arms, and were respectful, so I have no complaint about their behavior.
What makes this most upsetting is that this disrespect occurred on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks that killed almost 3000 Americans.
Thus, I'm in search of a new team to root for, at least temporarily, and I will be boycotting the Dolphins, their sponsors, and any sponsors who have business relationships with any of the 4 players who engaged in the dishonorable behavior. This boycott will remain in effect until team discipline is initiated, or until the players in question apologize, or until they're cut from the team.
Starting on Thursday with the Panthers-Broncos game, I'm asking fans of each team to report what their players did.
So far, the Seahawks get a passing grade and the Dolphins get a failing grade. Brandon Marshall of the Broncos took a knee on Thursday night, but I believe the Panthers players all showed respect.
If this phenomenon persists, I'm perfectly willing to give up on the NFL as a whole. If the league can't maintain a semblance of team discipline and respect for the country, then it's time for me to move on to other interests.
I say this as a lifelong Dolphins fan who was born around the time that the team entered the league in 1966. Apparently the only message that will get the NFL's attention is to hit t hem where it counts: in their wallets.
So if there were any other incidents of disrespect by any other NFL teams, please document them on this thread.
In contrast to the 4 shameful Dolphins players who dishonored the national anthem, did anyone notice who was standing directly in front of them in the video? It was none other than a Black United States Marine, in full dress uniform, helping to hold up the giant American flag that was being waved during the anthem.
What a contrast: one Black Marine who was a credit to his race, compared with 4 Black Dolphins players who brought shame instead.
So far, here's my data, please correct any errors:
Is this disrespect displayed by a ‘diversity’ of players or only by Black players?
If so, I guess this proves that ‘reparations’ won’t do anything to improve race relations, since these millionaires don’t seem satisfied with their country.
my team too but I’m not ditching 50 years of being a Dolphfan because 4 dumbasses in the history of the team decided to take a knee,, that’s just silly IMHO
I like it and will use your list.
All Buffalo Bills players were standing with hands on their hearts.
But otherwise didn’t show up for the game....
Does your data consider NFL teams that have had murderers, rapists, molesters, and wife beaters?
My team was the Dolphins. I can live without them.
The top management of the NFL is the problem. Wear cleats to support 9/11 remembrance and you get fined. Try to honor slain Dallas police and you face disciplinary action. Save yourself some angst and just give up on the NFL.
” If the league can’t maintain a semblance of team discipline and respect for the country, then it’s time for me to move on to other interests.”
It’s well past that time - all sports have been coopted by the left. Time to kick the “opiate of the masses” addiction.
I didn’t watch any game nor do I plan to.
Let’s “Target” the NFL.
Green Bay Packers were either holding the flag (along with a phalanx of 1st responders) or standing behind respectfully!
Why parse it? The league tolerates this behavior. I’m done with NFL.
Where's the team discipline from new head coach Adam Gase, or owner Stephen Ross? This wasn't just a failure of the 4 selfish players. It was also failure of leadership by coaches, ownership, and fellow players. It was a clear sign of DIS-unity.
The Dolphins used to be a class organization, but now the inmates appear to be running the asylum.
The Dolphins team also issued an incredibly lame statement, rationalizing the blatant disrespect, which can be read on the team website. In the comments section below it, there is post after blistering post by dozens of lifelong fans, expressing their outrage and their intent to boycott any sponsors who are related to the 4 cowardly players in question, and to refrain from purchasing any team merchandise as well.
What will you say if this disrespect goes on week after week?
Respect for my country takes precedence over respect for my team, and I don't appear to be alone in this sentiment.
You know, football is not critical to the average person’s life.
It is very critical to those who make their livings off of it.
Same reasons I don’t go to the movies or give any money to hollyweirdos.
If Unhappy Kappy and other players want to do the kneeling during the Anthem schtick, as disgusting as it is it’s their right to do so. If nothing else, we know who the asshats are, that’s the beauty of the 1st Amendment. My problem is the gutless wonders who run the NFL who allow this behavior but have zero tolerance for players who wanted to wear blue armbands to show support for the police or those who wanted to wear the 9/11 commemorative cleats. Whatever rules there are for what is and isn’t appropriate conduct while on the NFL’s time, either enforce them consistently, or throw out the damn rules altogether.
I hope every one that shows such disrespect has a career ending injury. I don’t care if they die broke. Screw ‘em.
A couple of thugs from the (Hate)triots were giving the “black power” raised fist salute. Al Michaels referred to it as a demonstration. It just made me even more pissed off when the Cardinals lost a close one to them.
Excellent point. It's "The World Turned Upside Down" the way the NFL has inverted what's right and what's wrong. They tolerate this crap from players, but want to punish other players for honoring police officers killed in the line of duty, or for wearing cleats which commemorate the victims of 9/11 terror attacks?
It's sheer insanity! I hope the NFL experiences major blowback from this PC crap...
>> In contrast, the Seattle Seahawks stood as a team and locked arms,
They still suck by the standard you’re applying to the Dolphins.
Disregard Goodell, he’s an idiot. Speak with your wallet.
BTW, it’s been reported here at FR that a few Pats Power-Fisted. Did you notice?
