Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg pledges $3bn to rid the world of all disease

Marion Dakers AP 21 September 2016 • 8:22pm

The Facebook founder and his wife, who  pledged to give away 99pc of their wealth to good causes following the birth of their daughter last year, said the money would be used to assist scientific work and build new research tools.

The goal, which they are unlikely to live to see accomplished, is to "cure, prevent or manage all disease" in the next 80 or so years.

"So if you even just assume that we'll be able to continue to make progress on that same trajectory, then that implies that by the end of this century we will have been able to solve most of these types of things," Mr Zuckerberg said.

He and Ms Chan, who has worked as a paediatrician, have spent the past two years speaking to scientists and other experts to plan the endeavour.

He emphasised "that this isn't something where we just read a book and decided we're going to do.

"We spend 50 times more on health care treating people who are sick than we spend on science research (to cure) diseases so that people don't get sick in the first place," Mr Zuckerberg said.

He added that the approach reflects a belief that "people are always going to suffer from disease so therefore we should focus on treating people who are sick."

The Facebook founder is worth about $56bn, thanks to shares in his own company.

Mr Zuckerberg has asked other shareholders to allow him to give away his stock without losing control of the company.

Their announcement comes a day after Microsoft made a pledge to “solve the problem of cancer” within a decade by reprogramming diseased cells.

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, privacy robber baron, bodly promises to "rid the world of all disease", does he?

He's been caught so many times lying about what data his company harvests from its users, suspicion is completely warranted with today's audacious claim from the devious twerp.

The $56 Billionaire left-wing elitist sees us little people as part of the disease, he seeks to cure?

Know a man by his actions - just look at the neighbors he seeks to eliminate in order that his mansion has a better view...

I may be ignorant, but I can’t figure out how he made $56,000,000,000 on Facebook.

It’ll take a whole lot more than he has to rid even just this country of the disease of liberalism.

If Zuck is serious about ridding the world of disease, he can start by shutting down his sickening website.

$3 billion won’t cure half of the hundreds of different cancers, let alone everything else.

As for Z, hey he’s young. His life experiences so far have probably not been the kind to instill great wisdom. Give him time, maybe he’ll mature better than we expect by 40.

He’ll learn more important things in the next ten years than he has learned in all his previous ones. Maybe something good will leak in.

The first thing you can do is buy medical supples to treat all the horrible infectious diseases being brought in to ccountry by illegall immigrants then build walls between the countries to stop the spread of these life threatening diseases. That will help a lot.

Romans 6:23 (NIV)
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Well that will be 3 billion wasted.

It would be better to spend 3 billion on longevity health improvement technologies.

Because all disease is body not working properly. You wat to keep it working properly so it can repair and maintain itself properly.

You’re not ignorant.
And I don’t know if your question might be rhetorical.
However, Facebook supposedly has over a billion users that many advertisers pay handsomely for access to sell services and products to.
Not to mention that in our sick false economy, investors are deluded, convinced to must buy over priced stock, and because you can’t earn bank any interest, decent returns on more conservative investments, like bonds.

Things are very warped.
Real tangible industries like Shipping, Energy, and Heavy construction equipment, are hurting.
All the while, Internet companies do great because venture capitalists and investors throw money at trendy e-service companies.
The music is going to stop soon and it’s going to hurt.

Little Mark will soon learn that when money is given to third world organizations most of it ends up in the hands of others for personal gain.

Exactly what I was thinking too. I wish we could rid the world of the disease of liberalism. Oh, by the way, throw in communism and that gutter religion too.

He stole Facebook from the people who developed in when he was an undergraduate at Harvard. He's a piece of work.

Hey - how’s that “I’m only gonna’ eat meat I killed myself!” pledge working out?

Some people around here need to realize that even (especially!) billionaires can just be really lucky morons. Being good @ one thing doesn’t make you “smart”. We should’ve learned that with Perot.
