Saddam Hussein had a secret torture room built in the basement of the Iraqi mission to the United Nations in New York’s Upper East Side, it has been reported.
The Iraqi dictator ordered the installation of the “detention room” inside the five-story building at 14 East 79th Street when he rose to power in 1979, two unnamed Iraqi officials told the New York Post.
“It was a dark room. The doors were reinforced in a way that nobody could break in or out. You didn’t need to soundproof it,” one official said. The other official added: “You’re not going to hear someone screaming down there.”
According to the two Iraqi officials, who spoke to the Post on condition of anonymity, the dictator’s henchmen, from the notorious Mukhabarat (Iraqi Intelligence Service), would hold Iraqis living in the US for up to 15 days to use them as leverage. …

if the UN was thrown out of the USA as it should have been long ago, Iraq wouldn’t have had an embassy in NY.

Interesting, because Russia firmly supported Saddam. In fact, our 'friends' (according to the FR Putinistas) in Russia reportedly snuck WMDs out of Iraq and into Syria just prior to the war. And the commie left was firmly on the side of Saddam and Iraq. Saddam repeatedly referred to himself as a "Progressive" in his speeches. He was head of the Socialist Baath Party, a party devised by a French communist I believe.

John Loftus, director of The Intelligence Summit, said in the November 16, 2007 issue of FrontPage Magazine that many documents from Iraq point to WMD being transferred to other countries such as Syria: 'As stated in more detail in my full report, the British, Ukrainian and American secret services all believed that the Russians had organized a last minute evacuation of CW [chemical] and BW [biological] stockpiles from Baghdad to Syria.'
His researchers allegedly found a document ordering the concealment of nuclear weapons equipment in storage facilities under the Euphrates River a few weeks before the invasion.[14]"
