Looks like a lot of the are middle eastern
The weird thing to me is that Western Europe has pretty cushy jails except for France which still has Bastille style joints
And they give out about 20% the severity of sentencing we do here at least federally
And they have perks like conjugal visits with about anyone and big cells and furloughs etc
So why suicide..
Plenty federal prisoners here have life sentences for non violent crimes ..pretty soft guys for life sentences
Yet suicide remains very low

I worked in a prison for 25 years. A lot of the inmates had better food, clothing and shelter, than they did on the street. That’s pretty sad. I never liked having to deal with violence, but I thought that in many cases, that was the only “punishment” they got.
High suicide rates in prison are evidence of gang activity and organized crime, possibly abetted by the prison admin.
Lots of rivalries between Arab groups, Eastern European groups and Roma. European jail are parties compared to most US prisons. Add in the religious wars and no wonder folks “suicide”.

After an expensive, time wasting study, it was found this is due to the fact there is no television, no soccer field and the elements must be endured due to the lack of amenities. These ‘folks’ found a way out.
European jails are pretty cushy and the sentences are much lighter than ours, so these guys must be real pusses if they are suiciding at such a high rate.
“Has it coming” from who? It’s suicide, they chose that themselves...

We need studies for California to help raise our illegal prisoners’ suicide rates. Europe is way ahead of our scores.
Culturally, Europeans are a pretty solitary lot, whereas ME are a pretty social bunch. It’s probably due to a lot of isolation, despite having cable tv or video games to occupy their time. Their loneliness is probably the driver of most of it.
