HARRISONBURG — Charges are likely to be filed before Election Day in the case involving a James Madison University student, the voter registration organization he worked for, and the submission of false voter-registration applications.

Harrisonburg Director of Elections Debbie Logan, told the city Electoral Board on Wednesday that the FBI had given her that information and the names of the 19 people who were falsely registered, five of them deceased. Previous reports said that all 19 false registration applications were in the names of the deceased.

If guilty as charged, the culprit should spend a couple of years in prison for disenfranchising voters.

This little worm, Andrew Spieles, is still employed by JMU's 'Off Campus Life'.

Their mission statement:

It is the mission of Off-Campus Life (OCL) to assist students in gaining necessary knowledge and skills to make informed decisions within the JMU off-campus community. The transition of moving off-campus includes new and exciting situations, challenges, and responsibilities. This includes upholding legal and community responsibilities, budgeting money, learning time management, and adjusting to life with new roommates. OCL helps students understand and live up to these new expectations.

Hey Andrew, How’s that College education working out for you? At least you’ll get to learn about the inner workings of law enforcement.

It would seem a charge of treason, and the appropriate punishment would be more appropriate, and perhaps more likely to stop future treasonous activity.

2 years is not enough. He should be tarred & feathered and then shipped to North Korea in a pine crate.

I would tend to agree, but in this case, it’s a John Madison University student. My humble guess is that “dad” or some support lobby group will bring up some heavy-hitter lawyer and eventually get this down to a thousand dollars per each registration fraud ($19,000 total) and suspend the jail sentence.

Personally, I think the states all need to go back and write a minimum to the deal and make each registered fraud a minimum of $5,000 each and one month in jail for each fraud. This would put the judges into a position where they can’t let the person off. I also think their right to vote ought to be permanently ended.

Under 52 USC 20511, he faces five years. PER COUNT.

Of course, this assumes that the Obama DOJ will be interested in prosecuting.

5 years in prison, and he forfeits his voting rights permanently...that goes for you ‘snowbirds’ who vote twice, as well.

Exactly. Until real prison time is reliably doled out, this is going to be hard to stop.

Exactly. Really stiff jail sentences should be imposed. Outrageous.

This is the tip of the iceberg. Most likely a diversion to make it appear federal law enforcement actually cares about voter fraud.

These cases are very effective in curbing on-the-ground Democrat voter fraud. They remind the little people that while the thugs at the top have very low exposure to risk and a very high benefit potential from voter fraud, they have high risk and very low benefit potential. That crimps the process because no matter how you look at it voter fraud must ultimately be committed by little people.

Not with Gov McAwful around, in fact he may pardon him so he can vote in November.

Historically, lawyers including prosecution, defense and judges have never taken vote fraud seriously because “everybody does it”. It’s like jaywalking to them.

It’s like jaywalking because in most states, most cases, it is equivalent to jaywalking or a parking ticket. It is a minor offense in most states, most cases because the law was written by incumbent politicians.

It will take a larger, more persistent effort than we have seen so far to change “the system” in this case.

It is overwhelmingly a Democrat phenomenon in Democrat-run jurisdictions. And Congress has limited the GOP’s ability to stop the fraud in a number of GOP run states as well.
