Donald Trump expressed that he would not approve the AT&T and Time Warner merger if elected president. "Deals like this destroy democracy," said Trump during a rally in Gettysburg, Pa., on Saturday, where he discussed what he would do in the first 100 days of his presidency.

In case you're wondering, Time Warner Cable split from Time Warner and became an independent company in 2009.

Earlier this year they were acquired by Charter Communications and are in the process of being re-branded as Spectrum.

GOOD!
IMHO, ATT is a ripoff outfit... quoting one rate and charging much higher

they need to be busted up to restore some more competition to the marketplace

they certainly do NOT need to be allowed to get any more huge than they already are, given their business practices

So how does AT&T figure in? Doesn’t seem like Time Warner Cable would be on the block.

Time Warner Cable is not on the block. They are a separate entity.

The telecommunication companies were broken up a while ago to prevent what is happening right now.

How would he block it? By executive fiat?

He also mentioned they'd revisit the Comcast-NBCUniversal merger. Time to dust off the Sherman Anti-Trust Act?

He won't talk about it before the election, but I'd be surprised if breaking up the "too big to fail" banks and restoring Glass-Steagall isn't also on the list of things to look at.

Not sure what he’s saying....but I trust him.

I have a friend who works at the top levels of the CRTC, the Canadian version of the FCC.

I will have to ask about the implications of this. However I Know Donald knows what he’s doing.

Gotta ask yourself what AT&T would want with Time Warner. They already own Directv and I believe they would own CNN if this deal is approved. Their stock took a whopper of a hit. Stupid move AT&T.

Absolutely! I can't wait until Donald gets elected and makes AT&T lower my bill.

Go Trump!

It’s because of crap like this that Cox has a monopoly where I live. There is literally NOBODY else to go with.

And when companies have a monopoly, the customers suffer. Always.

Liberals are OK with big corporations gobbling up the little guys. Once they decide to nationalize and socialize everything, it makes it so much cleaner to take over.

I'm not following you then.

Earlier this year they were acquired by Charter Communications and are in the process of being re-branded as Spectrum. If Charter (now known as Spectrum) acquired Time Warner Cable earlier this year, then it's part of Spectrum now.

Time Warner and Time Warner Cable are no longer connected as of 2009. These are two separate transactions.

Okay, then they are buying the non-cable side.

Oops. Thanks. I hadn’t considered that option. Missed it by “.....................................................................................” much.

Thanks.

Captive media content generation, something they don’t have much of right now.

I’m unaware of Presidents having that power.

If they do, they damn well shouldn’t.
