I have heard from European sources that there is more freedom of expression in Russia than there is in Germany.

In the mid nineties you could find political publications running the whole spectrum in Russia. From Rainbow Unicorns to Neo-Nuremberg Rally stuff. Anything. Everything. Much of it was considered dodgy and sordid, but you could comb the kiosks and the stalls and the blankets set out on the malls and find it.
That may not be the case now, as it was a near anarchy then.
