“Today, we confirmed with the President-elect that our small Lincoln utility vehicle made at the Louisville Assembly Plant will stay in Kentucky,” Ford said in an emailed statement. “We are encouraged that President-elect Trump and the new Congress will pursue policies that will improve U.S. competitiveness and make it possible to keep production of this vehicle here in the United States. We will have more details to share on our future plans at the appropriate time.”

Supposedly Ford was not going to move that plant to Mexico.

It makes Lincoln SUVs. They had announced that they were going to move small car manufacturing to Mexico, and they still plan on doing so.

Yes we know, nobody including Trump, he never said he stopped FORD from closing the plant in Kentucky. Ford however was going to move the small Lincoln SUV assembly from the Kentucky plant down to Mexico to be assembled. The Kentucky plant does assemble other models so no it wasn’t going to close. The small cars you’re talking about are from the Michigan plant and supposedly they do other models at that plant too and so they’re not going to close either. And yes FORD still plans to move their small car model assembly from MI to Mexico. Trump said he would put a tariff on them if they did. We’ll see.

Trump:

Want to bring back billions into this country at a low tax rate?

KEEP AND CREATE JOBS FOR AMERICANS!

Create incentives. Create jobs. Keep the rust belt / working class folks in the R-win column and we can keep winning elections.

Tariffs don’t keep jobs. We need to first get rid of the regulations and high taxes that are the cause of company migration

Correct. Thus this announcement is misleading; unless they were considering moving the KY plant as well.

Yeah, I tried to point that out on one of the previous 3 threads.

I was accused of being the inventor of TDS and told to FOAD.

I’m THIS close.

well yes, I think the Ford spokesperson mentioned something about working to make it easier to stay in the US in her statement to the press.

He tweeted about the small suv not about the plant. Anyway, it’s a small step in the correct direction. You don’t have to lose your job to feel the impact of losing even a small part of your production. Maybe OT is cut, maybe they don’t hire any new people or cut out certain shifts. It’s never good to lose production even if it’s a little bit. I just dont get all the gnashing of teeth over this tbh. The headlines are from articles. PE Trump didn’t release a statement claiming he saved the plant itself.

I have been proudly driving my 2005 Ford Edge Ranger 4WD 4.0 SOHC for 4 years now.

I love my truck. It gets me up and down the hills in deep snow.

I can haul my brush to the dump. Just tie everything up using the side rails and rope

I can haul half a yard of top soil at a time to my property.

Good quality, American made. A small truck, lots of power and acceleration.

I paid 10,000 for it used in 2012. Low mileage.

It looks small compared to the Heavy Duty's 55,000 dollar trucks but it does the job.

“In the automaker’s 2015 contract with the UAW, it agreed to phase out the MKC in Louisville by the end of the contract, which expires in September 2019.”

Which leads to many questions. What platform is the MKC on ( I believe the Taurus ) so what does this portend in terms of Product Update/Redesigns and when and where does the MKC fit into that Fishbone type chart that is Ford's game plan that we are not privy too.

Secondarily, The "Small Cars" moving to Mexico are being supplanted by Ford bringing back the "Ranger" and a variant as they bringing back the "Bronco" to their lineup.

So, if Ford is rethinking this, where would they have room to build the "small car" (Focus, Escape, Cmax ) platform? ( Given the "Wayne Assembly" plant that the Ranger is going in and the small car is exiting is "Yuge" but is their room to build all of the above?) Tangent to this is will this platform be redesigned? Will the CMax's Hybrid Drive remain as the Automotive world moves towards a 48v Mild Hybrid System?

Their is a lot more to this than Ford Bad, Trump Good ra ra ra.

Google 48v Mild Hybrid Systems for starters, here is a snapshot (below) to get you going. BTW, I think Audi is the 1st out of the box with a 48V System. The question begs, with Obama's insane 59.5mpg fleet average, how does a system like this not get incorporated into everything with wheels....
