WASHINGTON President-elect Donald J. Trump has selected Elaine L. Chao, the former Labor secretary under George W. Bush, to head the Department of Transportation, elevating someone who has been a fixture of the Republican establishment in Washington to a post that could become integral to shaping one of the most ambitious parts of Mr. Trumps agenda.
Mr. Trump, a real estate magnate, has said infrastructure redevelopment is a priority. And Ms. Chao has experience politically and personally in navigating the competing centers of power in the capital. She is married to Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky and majority leader.

The wife of Sen. Yertle (RINO-KY)???!!! Nooooo...
Noopoooooooo
Her husband is Mitch McConnell. How is that not a conflict of interest?
Sleeps with the turtle. Ugh.
If it gets Mitch on board with Trump’s overall agenda, I don’t mind so much.
Just imagine the pillow talk.
You beat me to this. Not a terrible pick and not an overly important Cabinet post. Could be part of the cost of keeping Mitch on the team. That said, interesting to see how this plays with Trump’s stated desire to rebuild our infrastructure.
that is a big IF..and he will be more likely to go the other way so as not to appear biased since his wife is on the Cabinet. Maybe.
I really hate this nom but I will hate Romney as SOS even more.
So much for the rumor about Harold Ford.
“Her husband is Mitch McConnell. How is that not a conflict of interest?”
She worked for Bush with no problem
Wow. Trump is selecting well qualified and experienced people to take these positions, REGARDLESS to their GENDER or ETHNICITY.
How dare he actually follow the LAW, the CONSTITUTION, and PRINCIPLES of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA.
It would appear the Mrs is more Conservative then the Mister.
I’ll wager it’s the cost to get Sen. Yertle to pass/invoke the nuclear option in the Senate so that President Trump can get his SCOTUS appointment(s) and agenda passed.
Someone said that Department really needs draining. Not really familiar with it. If so, she isn’t the one to do it.
I am in a small minority here, but I like the Romney pick (if it’s real).
First of all, he cleans up well. Eurotrash love that.
Second of all, the “resistance” within the political system to the Trump administration is going to be unprecedented. Romney has proved he can be induced to piss on Trump - as LBJ said about such people, “better inside the tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in”.
Third, unless and until Team Trump pull the trigger on replacing the GOP with something better, Trump will have to divide the GOPe in order to control it. A Romney pick does that.
Please, NO
Chao has held a position as a distinguished fellow at the Heritage Foundation
It would appear the Mrs is more Conservative then the Mister.
I hope so.
This is Trump’s third minority woman pick.
People can’t say he only wants old white men.
She will be confirmed with at least 90 votes. Megan McCain could get confirmed. They’re all part of the elites.
And there will be no nuclear option. The senate is still run by rinos.
