Vilsack says Democrats need better message for rural America

No one listened to Tom Vilsack.

As agriculture secretary during the entire Obama administration, the former Iowa governor has for years been telling anyone who will pay attention — farmers, members of Congress, even Hillary Clinton — that Democrats need a better message for rural America. And he’s spent most of his tenure focusing on rural development, trying to revitalize areas that ultimately voted for Republican Donald Trump in this year’s presidential election.

“The Democratic Party, in my opinion, has not made as much of an effort as it ought to, to speak to rural voters,” Vilsack said Tuesday in an interview with The Associated Press. “What’s frustrating to me is that we actually have something we can say to them, and we have chosen, for whatever reason, not to say it.” …

Funny that Reid thought the same thing eleven years ago. Could be that the Dems actually do not have anything to say to what they call “flyover country”.

(This is a week old, but I did not see it posted, so sorry if it was; could not find it in the archives or by keyword.)

What, telling people that their communities deserve to die and they themselves need to hurry up and die doesn’t work politically?

Who knew?

Not in their current form, they don’t!

They’re going up against what I call redneck. Rednecks as I use the term are more than a racially tied thing, they are a philosophy and a worldview as well. They are loyal, they have a deep love and fear of God, they believe in working hard, they will gladly offer themselves up for the benefit of their fellow men. I could almost write a song about it (actually, I did, but to tepid reviews).

Democrats used to understand redneck better, but somehow never were all that happy with minority groups becoming redneck. That’s when they started to pander to the minority groups, leaving the rednecks behind.

This left the rednecks on a silver platter ready for MAGA Donald Trump to pick up.

They might want to stop disparaging their intellect just for starters.

These flyovers may not all be literal geniuses but they are wise.

Stalin and the Communist Party had a message for rural Russia and Ukraine, and it was this: die.

The party helped them die, and with the aid of forced starvation, about ten million did so.

What followed was the collectivization of agriculture in the Soviet Union, which resulted in about seventy years of continuous “drought,” which caused widespread hunger.

Except for the members of the inner party, who did great.

I’m from Cali but I do have kin in Louisiana, Arkansas and Iowa. All of my kin from those states are very down to earth, wise, kind and conservative. All were very excited to vote to MAGA. They all loath Obama and the democrats, as do I.

In other words they’re great people. I wish we had more of their kind around my neck of the woods.

“That Democrats need a better message for rural America”

You mean better than, “die”?

Maybe that’s where I got the idea of redneck from. People who have to make a way close to the earth have little room or opportunity for much frivolity.

The democrat party stands for enviros, feminists, BLM, illegal supporters, islamists, sexually confused people (I am tired of this lgbtabcxyz nonsense), people who hang out at the EBT line, hollywood celebs and people who are just wimps. They used to have people like Gephardt and Daschle and they had broader appeal

But when I mean not much frivolity, I mean in a sophisticated way. There are just fewer things to go wrong in a simpler world view.

The kind of fun seen tends to be of the “hold my beer & watch this” variety. I guess I’m not counting that as frivolity. Some kinds of fun are serious; they are redolent of the Creator.

Yeah, like whatever sense they had got hijacked into never never land. Though they always had that thing of enmity between them and black people (and arguably still do, now overspoiling them rather than oppressing them outright).

Nope. Not even close. It would be a lie and we see that, very clearly.

They’re going up against what I call redneck. Rednecks as I use the term are more than a racially tied thing, they are a philosophy and a worldview as well. They are loyal, they have a deep love and fear of God, they believe in working hard, they will gladly offer themselves up for the benefit of their fellow men

Exactly. It ain't just whitey, you i(D)iots. They will never regain that vote because they just cannot ditch their identity politics. They have nowhere else to go, but further left.

Absolutely! I’m really a fish out of water here in Cali even though I was born and raised here.

I love the way they party and love each other and the food they can cook is out of this world. I really could go on and on about them. They’re outstanding human beings, and yes, they are indeed rednecks.
