Twitter is a great place for journalists to vent and to leak their liberal bias for all to see. And exactly that happened Tuesday night when CBS Boston Freelance Writer David Leavitt tweeted, “’Trump died sleeping’ #CalmMeDownIn3Words.” Leavitt’s tweet has garnered over 900 retweets, more than 2,300 likes, and almost 2,000 responses, many of them negative.
"Trump died sleeping" #CalmMeDownIn3Words — David Leavitt (@David_Leavitt) November 30, 2016
As outrageous has Leavitt’s tweet was, CBS Boston’s public relations kneejerk reaction was flat out ridiculous. The local news outlet responded to more than 100 irate twitter users, first proclaiming, “Mr. Leavitt is not a current or former employee of WBZ-TV or CBS. His comments do not reflect the views of our station.” Before changing it to, “Mr. Leavitt does not and never has worked for WBZ-TV or CBS.” It’s noteworthy that they argued that he does not “reflect the views” of the network, since they claimed he never worked for them.

But despite the network’s passionate denial that Leavitt “does not and never has worked for WBZ-TV or CBS,” his finger prints are very much present on their website. CBS Boston’s website actually has an author page dedicated to his work, which displays nine articles he has written for them.
As much as CBS Boston wants to deny Leavitt’s involvement with their news outlet it’s impossible for them to refute. Even though the last article he had written for CBS Boston was in September 8, 2015, it means their claim he has “never” worked for them is a lie.
No words, except....Good Riddance!
Is this the new normal? OK to joke about our Presidents dying in plane crashes or sleeping? If Hillary had won, a conservative who even thought of tweeting such a thing would be executed in front of a stadium crowd.
Stupid as his comment is I don’t like trying to get people fired for exercising their first amendment rights. On either side.
Well yes & no. The fact that they bought some of his articles, but he has never been an employee of theirs, means technically they have not lied. But also true is the fact that they are not being totally forthcoming either.
Transparency is the operative word here. They like to apply it to conservatives but never to themselves OR they just flat out lie about it.
David Leavitt is a gay writer and academic known primarily for a novel called Lost Language of Cranes. Lives in a different universe than Trump and Trump voters.
True that, which is why I never bother to read what they write, and haven’t for many years now.
1st amendment is to protect you from the government, not your employer for stupid stuff you say that can reflect badly upon them.
You post stupid stuff on Twitter, yes others can lambast you for it, your boss can fire you for it. But Obama can’t go in and shut you down for it.
That is the difference.
You also don’t need government to approve of your tweet before you post or your article before you publish it or your message on free republic before you post it.
I like it that way, seems reasonable and ensure people are still responsible for their stupidity.
He wrote articles for them. They did not say he was never their employee; they said he never did any WORK for them, which is a lie. He produced articles and was paid by them for his work--that he produced for them.
>>Stupid as his comment is I dont like trying to get people fired for exercising their first amendment rights. On either side.

A business can NOT rob anyone of their constitutional rights. An employment contract is voluntary — their money, their rules.
The USC is a conaact between government and the people.
If he accepted money for work he did for them, he's never been employed by them? Yeah, right! Like if a woman accepts some cash from a guy after sex, she's not a whore. But freelancers do negotiate terms of pay before a service, so technically freelancers have been employed. He is more technically an employee, whereas a woman in my example is not a whore. You're right, they're not forthcoming on the facts.
a conservative who even thought of tweeting such a thing would be executed in front of a stadium crowd.
a number of posters on this very website have fantasized regarding Mrs. Clinton’s demise...
Why not? Free speech does not mean freedom from consequences of your speech, does it? So, you can yell fire in a theater?
If this dickieboi starred in his own TV show, it would be called “Leavitt, It’s Beaver”...
This is a brief look into the swirling mass of self-loathing that is the liberal mind. They are devastated by the loss of power.
Prior to entering the presidential race there wasn’t even remotely this level of hatred and vitriol toward Trump. Most people thought of him as the hotel/casino guy or the TV guy that said “You’re fired!” Suddenly he’s some kind of vicious racist sexist ogre that deserves to die because he got into politics???
Cripes, these leftists are unhinged and put their lunacy on display daily.
You’ve heard of consultants right? They may work on client data but they are not employed by the client.
As a free lance reporter he writes articles and sells them. Much like a consultant that owns his own company, or a columnist that sells their column to many papers but works for none. They buy their work because they increase readership. The do not withhold taxes, nor do they pay a share like an employer does. They provide him with a 1099 at the end of the year, not a W2.
As such, he was never employed by them.
Do you send any of them a W2 at the end of the year? Do you pay a share of their taxes?
Then you are not their employer, and they are not your employee.
