Trump was RIGHT about Air Force One: Pentagon budget... more than $4.2 billion

tThe Pentagon program that will replace the pair of aging 'Air Force One' planes is already slated to cost $4.265 billion through the year 2021, according to federal budget and procurement documents obtained by DailyMail.com.

That number supports what President-elect Donald Trump said two days ago when he claimed the U.S. Air Force should cancel its order with Boeing because the project's cost had spiraled above $4 billion.

'Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!' Trump tweeted Tuesday.

Critics immediately pounced, including Boeing itself – which claimed it is 'currently under contract for $170 million to help determine the capabilities of these complex military aircraft that serves the unique requirements of the president of the United States.'

If you Google search 'Air FOrce One Trump' this article does not appear. Google is trying to hide it. If you Google 'air force one, "trump is right"' then it appears - without the "trump is right" part of the title. The little commie pricks working at Google need a knuckle sammich.

Most space is taken up by technology and private residence, as well as comm gear and encryption, as well as nuclear technology.

There are plenty of C-17’s in the USAF inventory. Easily configured.

That would pretty cool using those. The press corp could use one configured for airborne drops.

The contract is for aircraft, 2 for Trump 2 for Pence.

Af1 only looks like a 747. Internally it is beefed up to withstand close nuclear blast.

1. It is the command and control center for our country in time of war.
2. It must be able to communicate with our armed forces when under duress.

It is an amazing aircraft and worth every penny.

The profit margin is listed and known to the USG. It is tracked clsoely and will not exceed 10% profit.

It is a unique aircraft with unique technology requirements and hardening and Top Secret capabilities, and that makes the platform expensive (cost per unit plus classified technology and other gear).

The USG has on site DCMA agents at all stages of development and they track the costs and reliability and other aspects that ensure the USG is not being taken to the cleaners. DCMA watches closely the development and costs, and are direct observers/participants of Program Management Reviews. . .no secrets kept from the USG.

It is not like Boeing just threw a number out there well beyond reasonable bounds (10% profit is well, well below commercial profit margins).

Moving to China was for the 787 wing spar. Not jet production, and most assuredly NOT AF1.

Wanted to move to South Carolina but obama stepped in and sided with the Wash State unions to try and stop the move to South Carolina.

787 production toand ensure delivery. That said, Boeing selected South Carolina because it is a right to work state (non-union), and obama wanted to force Boeing from re-locating the line to South Carolina because he wanted to support unions.

Obama lost that fight. Boeing won.

Bottom line; China has no part in the AFI build or the 787 assembly.

Not necessarily. A "stock" 747, without any of the extensive enhancement necessary to serve as AF1, costs over $400 million (and that's not counting the cost of the engines - long story why). The AF1 cost also undoubtedly includes development costs for the technologies involved, all of which is spread across two aircraft instead of thousands, as in the case of civilian versions.

I think Trump is actually using this example more as a shot across the bow to let defense contractors like Boeing know that when we begin rebuilding our military capability, they shouldn't expect it to be a free for all. There will be extensive oversight to ensure that the value for our tax dollars is maximized. I'm pretty sure that was what he was getting at.

The current Air Force One planes will reach the end of their expected useful lives in 2017.

So what does POTUS ride until these are ready in 2021 ??
