After long hours of heated discussion, the Canadian government has established the worlds first nationwide carbon price. Only two of Canadas ten provinces refused to sign the law, arguing that carbon pricing would lead to reduced competition between firms.
During Fridays meeting, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau presented his carbon-pricing plan to provincial representatives, aboriginal leaders, and US Vice President Joe Biden. Trudeaus decision to price carbon was likely influenced by the fear that Donald Trumps election will lead to increased carbon emissions by the US.
I understand that many of you are concerned about what the new administration will do. Whatever uncertainty exists around the near-term policy choices of the next president, I am absolutely confident the US will continue making progress in its path to a low-carbon future, said Biden as he attended the meeting in Ottawa.
Economists often tout carbon pricing, which charges based on CO2 emissions, as the most effective method to reduce global warming emissions. Canadas plan will increase the cost of producing a ton of carbon by $7.60 (the equivalent of 10 Canadian dollars) per year until 2022 when it will have reached about $38.
The price will pause for British Columbia in 2020 at just under $23.
Manitoba and Saskatchewan refused to sign the agreement. We compete with the Americans in our province for drilling rigs. Our farmers compete with their farmers. Competitiveness for Canadians matters, especially at a time when our energy sector is reeling from low commodity prices, argues Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall.
Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister hinted that he might sign the agreement in the future if his province receives more money for healthcare.
Editor's note: This is really a stupid idea, punishing businesses for being productive. Next thing you know they will be penalizing cows for farting, like California is attempting to do. There is a right way to do things, by the way, see below.
So far we have avoided the transfer of wealth here, to the chagrin of hucksters like the ManBearPig.
Why does BC get a sweetheart deal?
Great! We’ll take all your money Canada
It’s just not fair.
If the Beast had been a LITTLE more gung-ho with the election fraud, we’d be seeing this here too.
“The price will pause for British Columbia in 2020 at just under $23”
Being from BC, it must be because the premier is as goofy stupid as the PM. Sask is my birthplace and it’s nice knowing the province didn’t go with the ski instructor PM. Sask is like Indiana and dependent on fuel to move crops. It was obvious the Premier of the province was listening to the constituents.
and as a reminder why I left that stupid province called BC, we only have ONE car insurance company owned by the gubmint’. Im sure they will raise the minimum $100/month basic to another level.
Leftards just being themselves.
Those two articles take Greenhouse Theory at face value and by the criterion set up in the theory itself finds no evidence of warming on the basis of greenhouse effect.
"Forbes reports on a peer-reviewed study that uses NASA data to show that the effects of carbon-based warming have been significantly exaggerated. In fact, much of the heat goes out into space rather than stay trapped in the atmosphere, an outcome that started long before AGW alarmists predicted:"
That article explains why no Hot Spot has been found.
Those five articles each show that Greenhouse Theory has no basis in reality due to a direct conflict with the known laws of physics. No wonder the smoking gun "hotspot" can't be found.
That article kills any thought of planetary warming from any cause. Think about it. If there is absolutely no sign of an acceleration of sea level rise how could the planet be warming? The rise in sea level in the last 100 years is far less than the average over the last 18,000 years caused by the inter-glacial period we are in.
Is there an economist on the planet who can’t see the long term impact of this decision on the future employment in the Canadian provinces? What does this clown think will happen to new business formations in Canada for any firm that has any international options? Some people have the economic IQ of dust.
I think the technical term is 'emote' as opposed to critical thinking...
So I guess a bag of charcoal isn’t worth much, even at the future floor price of $38/ton for carbon.
Fool’s errand. Only idiots sign onto to something this stupid and unnecessary. But whatever, they’re saving the planet, right?
So very happy about the results of our own election. Let’s keep this lunacy north of our border.
Yeah, the camel's nose under the tent.
Just wait until the penalties kick in.
If the AlGores of the world get this legitimized, strap in.
I'm pretty sure they could care less about 'Gaia'
This is all about fleecing the flock in the West and exerting control over nation-states.
I bobble my head with a sh!teating grin. But wait! Trump! Yea!
I have a few acres of woods. I would be very happy to sell Canadians some carbon credits.
They could even come by and hug a tree,,,for a price.
