It will be some time before Donald Trump announces a nominee to fill the vacancy left by Antonin Scalia, according to transition insiders.
But two names continue to emerge to the top of the president elect's list of potential Supreme Court justices. Judges Diane Sykes and William Pryor are among the top contenders, according to multiple sources familiar with the process.
CNN's Donald Trump Supreme Court nominee shortlist The Supreme Court vacancy is "actively being discussed," but there is no timetable at the moment, Trump transition aide Jason Miller told reporters Thursday.
"The President-elect, he had previously put out a list of 20 very qualified individuals from which he would select. I know that they have continued to narrow that list down," Miller said. "He himself has said that's probably a shorter list of 5 or 6 folks that are near the top of that, that's being narrowed down to. And again, but this is another one where it's an absolute utmost priority, so we need to make sure we get this one right."
Trump first mentioned Sykes and Pryor after a February debate -- and the two conservatives are among the only ones Trump has mentioned by name.
However, aides acknowledge that given the size of the list and Trump's previous approach to filling vacancies, things are subject to change.
Sykes, 58, sits on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. The Marquette University School of Law grad voted to uphold Wisconsin's voter ID law and also sided with businesses in challenging the Affordable Care Act's contraception mandate.
While some conservatives view Sykes favorably, others expressed concern given her age.
Pryor, a staunch conservative, called Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision making abortion legal, the "worst abomination in the history of constitutional law."

I thought Ted Cruz was in the running for that.
Trump gave a list and he’s got to keep his promise to choose from the list.
One of Reagan’s worst mistakes was naming a woman to SCOTUS in the name of being politically correct.
Rather have Pryor but all in for Sykes if she can remain true to conservative principles and not pull a Sandra Day O’Connor on us. Or like that ‘stealth conservative’ weasel Souter who turned out to be Ruthie Buzzy’s yes m’am boy of a liberal.
Do Sykes and Pryor have Ivy League backgrounds? I would prefer a non Ivy Leaguer to fill this vacancy.
No Sykes, no Pryor!
Appoint a real winner and one that will be on the bench for years to come. He’s a proven Constitution admirer................I recommend...........................
His ACU rating is 100!
Agreed. No women. Every single one we’ve had has been an unmitigated disaster.
I’d love to see Alabama’s Tom Parker, if he weren’t so old already.
Bill Pryor earned his B.A. from Northeast Louisiana University in 1984 (now University of Louisiana, Monroe) and his J.D. from Tulane University Law School in 1987, where he served as editor in chief of the Tulane Law Review.
Diane Sykes earned a B.S. degree in journalism at Northwestern University in 1980 and a J.D. at Marquette University Law School in 1984.
Never trust a woman on the Supreme Court.
Besides, there’s too damned many of them now, albeit that they’re either lesbians or dried up old biddies who want to move to New Zealand when they retire. That particular one has helped screw this nation up so she wants to retire elsewhere.
Note how a leftist SCOTUS pick ‘never’ turns to leaning conservative but how many damn so-called conservative picks turn out to lean or flirt with the leftist side? Sick of that crap— Thomas and Alito are the only solid ones we currently have. Kennedy and slightly less so Roberts are the swingers. No more swinger picks President Trump.
CNN??? How would they know anything? ‘FAKE NEWS’!!!
Great. We need a conservative from flyover country on the court. Not another Ivy leaguer, which even if conservative tend to be elitist.
Whew! At first glance I thought wanda sykes and richard prior.
...or anywhere else in the Judicial branch...most seem to lean left, just like they do when voting.
Before that excellent appointment of Jeff Sessions to AG I wanted him in spite of his age, but Trey Gowdy fits the bill perfectly!
I tell you this, so far I couldn’t be prouder than a puppy with two peters.
Pryor is younger. We need youth in the Supreme Court so they last 40 years. God help us if dems ever get back control and will need replacements.
Unfortunately true. Put a conservative woman on the SCOTUS and she will be subject to occasionally align with her liberal femmes. Cant have that-- sorry ladies. We have a nation at stake here.
