Good article. When I was growing up in the 1970s, it was an annual event for my parents to pile us into the station wagon with some hot chocolate for a nighttime drive through the nearby neighborhoods where we would see everything all lit up, Christmas music playing on the car radio.

These days, there are much fewer people keeping up that tradition and ironically it is the lower middle class blue collar neighborhoods that still put up the best displays with all the multi-color. In upscale yuppie neighborhoods, any displays are limited to the "clear white" lights which are nice to look at but rather blah. Multi-color lights are looked upon by these people as "low rent", you know, only put up by the kind of people who would eat at Applebees and buy their clothes from Wal-Mart.

I would like to see Christmas decorations make a come back.

In our area there are more decorations than in any year since Obama took office. Seems people are very pleased that Trump is in office.

I live in a college town. We put up white lights all over town but they stay up until Spring. It adds a little festiveness to a dreary cold winter.
