GOP Rep Slams Obama, Says Russian Sanctions Meant to 'Delegitimize' Trump's Election

Rep. Trent Franks slammed President Obama on Friday for imposing sanctions on Russia for political reasons, arguing that Obama’s “primary motivation is to delegitimize the election" of Donald Trump.

In an interview with MSNBC, Franks noted that Obama failed to act when it came to other Russian transgressions, such as standing behind Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s bombings of civilians in the country.

"Now he suddenly finds his tongue when he sees an opportunity to try to use Russia to, quote, 'delegitimize' the election of Donald Trump to be the president. I find that stunning," Franks said.

"I am completely convinced that Barack Obama's primary motivation here is to try to delegitimize the election here."

Franks is not against the sanctions, he simply believes they’ve come too late “and at the motivation that is completely hidden to the public.”

Franks's complaints echo those from Trump's camp. Transition officials have blasted the Obama administration's focus on the Russian hacks into Democratic organizations as an attack on the legitimacy of Trump's win.

While hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta may have had an impact on the election, there's no evidence to suggest that Russian hackers breached the vote tabulating process itself.

Franks also blasted the media for its characterization of his comments Thursday, when he said, "If Russia succeeded in giving the American people information that was accurate, then they merely did what the media should have done."

On Friday, Franks bristled at the suggestion that he was condoning hacks into American systems by foreign actors.

"Those comments were completely misconstrued," he said.

Franks, a member of the Armed Services Committee, said "no one has been harder on Russia than [him].”

“I have been deeply committed to making sure their expansionism and their efforts did not result in the deaths of innocent people across the world."

He’s my Rep and I had thought about writing him today to ask him why he hasn’t said anything. He must have read my mind.

Obama can try but it won’t work.

Obama has never known a real worker. Trump may not be perfect but his imperfections will be eclipsed by his commitment, his patriotism, and his work ethic.

I’m already proud of him.

One way to think about the “Russian hacks” is that what those emails provided was one of the few instances that wasn’t tainted by fake news.

Well, I have some concerns. Is he really a conservative with all of his neocon

For instance, this statement Franks noted that Obama failed to act when it came to other Russian transgressions, such as standing behind Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s bombings of civilians in the country

Well Obama has had a lot to say about Russians bombing "civilians" but a lot of those "civilians" are terrorists, or at least others think they are terrorists even if we think they are "freedom fighters."

Or this: I have been deeply committed to making sure their expansionism and their efforts did not result in the deaths of innocent people across the world

One must remember the bidding. We have been making noises about bringing the Ukraine into NATO all the while Ukraine having some sort of control over the Crimea and Sevastopol, which had actually been Russian since Catherine the Great.

So, I don't know how "expansionist" it is for Russia to keep what was always theirs and in the face of US ploys that would block access to the Black Sea, an issue over which the Russians are understandably not just a little touchy.

They’re trying to control Trump’s agenda and to delegitimatize him. The Democrats have steadily lost their power over the past 6 years. That’s our mandate and Russia didn’t have anything to do with that. Trump’s win was just the final nail in their party’s coffin. So go ahead and blame Putin Democrats. We’re still going to do what we’re going to do and we’re going to do it to you. Your crying and fighting just makes me want to do it even harder.

This whole Russian nonsense is simply a effort by the Democrats, MSM, and some Republicans to focus attention away from Obama passing thousands of regulations a day, efforts to undermine repealing Obamacare, nationalizing land, and throwing Israel under the bus. The Democrats hope that Trump’s and Congress’ attention will be tied up with hearings on the Russians that they will not have the time to deal with these other issues.

I can’t believe no one can see this blatant subterfuge.

Or, the FAKE boogeyman story may be used secondarily to lay the groundwork for sos confirmation hearings/attacks.

Rex W. Tillerson Mr. Trump’s choice is the president and chief executive of Exxon Mobil, whose ties with Russian President Vladimir V. Putin may draw scrutiny during the confirmation process.

"I am completely convinced that Barack Obama's primary motivation here is to try to delegitimize the election here."

Two can play that game.

If they're remotely successful, I hereby declare that NO Democrat is "legitimate" from that point forward.

Obama is setting the stage for a putsch. His feigned outrage over Russia’s violation of the “sanctity” of the US election is window dressing for nullifying the election somehow. Perhaps he intends to provoke an armed conflict with Russia & declare a state of emergency.

I don’t know what Obama has planned but he is up to something beyond what he is stating. This story tells us that the MSM will give him PR cover for whatever action he takes.

Obama and Hillary would do anything for their own benefit - even start a war after using wag-the-dog tactics to “justify” it. And they called Trump the dangerous one.
