North Korea joins the New Year's Eve celebrations with rather understated fireworks display

The firework display sadly did nothing to rival those seen in Sydney, Dubai and other cities

New Year celebrations in North Korea were more flop than fantastic as this video shows.

The fireworks were put on by the famously secretive state at the Kim Il Sung square in Pyongyang.

But they failed to live up to some of tonight's displays after being overshadowed by the incredible fireworks in Sydney, Hong Kong and other cities around the world.

The footage, from state-run television show KRT, showed people watching the 15-minute long effort put on by Kim Jong-Un's government.
