Official: Airport shooting suspect could be 'home-grown violent extremist'
Suspect identified as Esteban Santiago By Jeff Tavss - Executive Producer Posted: 4:15 PM, January 06, 2017
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Within hours of a shooting that left 5 dead and many injured at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, details emerged about the alleged suspect.
Sen. Bill Nelson was first to identify the suspect as Esteban Santiago, 26.
Santiago was apprehended without a fight and suffered no injuries. The FBI and Broward Sheriff's Office are interrogating Santiago at the airport and trying to determine his motives.
A former member of the military, Santiago was honorably discharged in 2016. Law enforcement said Santiago had a military ID on him during the shooting.
According to ABC News, Santiago flew from Anchorage to Minneapolis and then on to Fort Lauderdale.
Upon arrival in Fort Lauderdale, Santiago allegedly took the weapon out of his checked baggage at the carousel in terminal 2. Santiago then went to the bathroom to load it before firing at random upon leaving the restroom.
ABC News also reports that colleagues of Santiago had previously brought concerns about him to the FBI and that the agency had prior contact with him.
Santiago's brother says he had been receiving psychological treatment while living in Alaska.
Bryan Santiago tells The Associated Press that his family got a call in recent months from 26-year-old Esteban Santiago's girlfriend alerting them to the situation.

Feebeye guys knew ?
“Home grown terrorists” is government dog whistle to crack down on “NRA members and Tea party members.”
Maybe he’s just a nut
How did he get in the Guard? (lemme guess...affirmative action)
How did he get a gun? (ditto)
News just said he got a general discharge. That is not particularly an honorable discharge.
Sometime very soon, if not already in the works I can see the gun-grabbers demanding firearms and ammo will no longer be permitted in checked baggage.
“When asked about whether this was a terrorist act, Broward Sheriff Scott Israel told Local 10 that he did not believe there was a larger plot involved.
“Based on the information I have at this time, it would be a home-grown violent extremist,” Israel said.”
Firearms
When traveling, comply with the laws concerning possession of firearms as they vary by local, state and international governments.
Declare each firearm each time you present it for transport as checked baggage. Ask your airline about limitations or fees that may apply.
Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container and transported as checked baggage only. Only the passenger should retain the key or combination to the lock.
Firearm parts, including magazines, clips, bolts and firing pins, are prohibited in carry-on baggage, but may be transported in checked baggage.
Replica firearms, including firearm replicas that are toys, may be transported in checked baggage only.
Rifle scopes are permitted in carry-on and checked baggage.
United States Code, Title 18, Part 1, Chapter 44, firearm definitions includes: any weapon (including a starter gun) which will, or is designed to, or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; the frame or receiver of any such weapon; any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; and any destructive device. As defined by 49 CFR 1540.5 a loaded firearm has a live round of ammunition, or any component thereof, in the chamber or cylinder or in a magazine inserted in the firearm.
Ammunition
Ammunition is prohibited in carry-on baggage, but may be transported in checked baggage.
Firearm magazines and ammunition clips, whether loaded or empty, must be securely boxed or included within a hard-sided case containing an unloaded firearm. Read the requirements governing the transport of ammunition in checked baggage as defined by 49 CFR 175.10 (a)(8).
Small arms ammunition, including ammunition not exceeding .75 caliber and shotgun shells of any gauge, may be carried in the same hard-sided case as the firearm.

He signed up for the National Guard in August and spent time in the loony bin in November. Guess that’s when he was kicked out of the NG. Three months hardly makes him ex-military.
By end of day Obama will be condemning christianity and the crusaders.
no clue if this is accurate, but this guy seems to have found social media of the shooter as a muslim convert.

GotNews.com broke the info but that site is down atm. No clue if ddos attack or just sudden heavy demand.
Also, if the correct guy is the one identified, he’s a suspected pedo of the “not enough evidence to prosecute” sort.
Already happened. On CNN during the Brook Bladwin hour.
Our sister-station KTTU also received information regarding Santiago’s military service.

Home grown extremist come from liberals, the media and Democrat spiel. The are the making of the Democrat Party and it’s spiel in Congress. It is time to stand up to the Democrat heatherns.
Never mind. Apparently the dates are all over the place. Too early to nail it down.
I always love the LE excuse....we can’t arrest him...he hasn’t done anything wrong. Wanna bet??
Looks like a Glock with mag extension.
Home grown violent extremist sounds like a confederate flag waving aryan white supremacist.
Why don’t they just say homegrown Islamist?
Ok, so he DID serve overseas (Iraq). And then got infected by jihad, either because he had mental health problems, or it all gave him mental health problems. Jihad isn’t all that sane.
Better yet, just say Muslim.
Home grown but foreign nurtured.
“The alleged Fort Lauderdale shooter took Delta #1088 from Anchorage to Minneapolis-Saint Paul last night, landing this morning, and then he took Delta #2182 from Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Fort Lauderdale airport, says sources involved in the investigation.”
