How the University of California exploited a visa loophole to move tech jobs to India
LA Times ^ | 1-6-2017 | Michael Hiltzik

Using a visa loophole to fire well-paid U.S. information technology workers and replace them with low-paid immigrants from India is despicable enough when it’s done by profit-making companies such as Southern California Edison and Walt Disney Co.

But the latest employer to try this stunt sets a new mark in what might be termed “job laundering.” It’s the University of California. Experts in the abuse of so-called H-1B visas say UC is the first public university to send the jobs of American IT staff offshore. That’s not a distinction UC should wear proudly.

UC is training software engineers at the same time they’re outsourcing their own software engineers. What message are they sending their own students?

...

By sending IT jobs abroad, UC is undermining its own mission, which includes preparing California students to serve the high-tech industry.

...

Letters went out to UC President Janet Napolitano from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) and Lofgren, who urged Napolitano to reverse the outsourcing plan and suspend the HCL contract until UC can “thoroughly examine” the public policy issues raised by the plan.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) pointedly reminded Napolitano that UC received about $8.5 billion in federal funding in 2014-15, and said she was unhappy to hear that the funds would be used “to replace Californian IT workers with foreign workers or labor performed abroad.” She added, “this is not the way” to cut costs.

...

UC President Janet Napolitano seems to be trying to dodge responsibility for this policy. Although she vowed to crack down on H-1B abuses as secretary of Homeland Security, a job she held from 2009 to 2013, she’s been utterly silent about UC’s abuse of that very program on her watch.

The california government seems hellbent on replacing all of the Americans with foreign nationals and illegals.

Just goes to show that the radical socialist democrats are still pissed over Lincoln taking their slaves away from them.

If snowflakes taking Information Technology classes at UC had a concept of return on investment, why would they be attending a school teaching how to be a programmer that the school would never hire because they prefer cheap labor?

This is just one example of many.
“On Jan. 17, three days before he leaves office, Obama is expected to release a set of regulations that will further expand the H-1B program.”

Once again, Big Nurse Napolitano lashes out at the Americans she hates so much.

How did this freak ever get to be Governor of Arizona? Much less Secretary of the DHS, supposedly the most important Federal police agency.

So their medical center is losing money because obamacare forced them to take more Medicaid clients, and their response is to fire American employees and taxpayers that pay for obamacare. Socialism doesn’t work!

Wait until Napolitano finds out about the power
Trump has after Jan 20. Sanctuary locations might not be the only ones feeling the pinch.

Feinstein says she is disappointed-—but does nothing concrete. Trump will demand money be returned. It is a clear contract case, IMO. Money was sent to University to hire people-—NOT to hire people that don’t live in America.

Globalism -> Socialism -> Communism. That’s the Marxist plan.

Agreed. This is something that needs to be said over and over. Fortunately, the average Joe seems to be catching on. After all, Trump won.

And I'd add that the Communism mentioned here is not the "pure communism" that the sociology professors like to talk about.

It is more like communism/fascism of the type seen in the old Soviet Union, or in the EU today. Communist in that everybody is in one big commune. Fascist in that the globalist elites make all the decisions.

This one is easy to correct. Cut a chunk Federal funding for every job they outsource overseas.

UC received about $8.5 billion in federal funding in 2014-15

How much of this went to studies of something like the effect of a diet entirely made up of processed food on heath or a comparison of the writings of two obscure 19th century authors? Get federal money out of most university "research."

Agree. Gov’t out of education, and out of most research. I’d make an exception for basic/fundamental research in medicine and the hard sciences.

BTW, isn’t it interesting when the libs turn on each other?
