Former Secretary of State James Baker on Sunday warned that President-elect Donald Trump’s new administration “cannot be Israel’s lawyer” if it expects to successfully broker peace in the Arab/Israeli conflict.

In an interview aired Sunday on CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS, Baker said he hopes Trump “will immerse himself” in the issue of peace in the Middle East because “it takes leadership at the very top of America’s government if that’s got any chance of succeeding.” […]

Baker said he doesn’t know Trump’s choice of David Friedman as ambassador to Israel, but does not agree with annexing the West Bank or moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. …

There are a few things that Baker needs to immerse himself in, but I will not be specific here.

You cannot “broker peace” with people who do not want peace. We should not even try while the other side is committing or threatening terrorism as a policy.

How many decades has America tried to broker peace? Perhaps we need a different approach, like backing our ally Israel! Baker proposes that we act like a neutral player in negotiations, but he (and many more) ignore the fact that the Palestinians are the main instigators here. Isn't it asinine to expect a two-state solution when one of the parties wants to annihilate the other?

There will never be peace in the middle east. Get used to it. Say good riddance to useless “mediators” such as this too late for the grave James Baker. He remains a useful idiot. Stop the appeasement of the devil dressed in a head scarf reading a phony “holy” book. Islam is the problem, stop the lies.

The end game is for Israel to annex all their ‘occupied’ territory and evict the Arabs from the refugee camps to Jordan Egypt and Syria.

They should PAY the Arab countries whatever they want to take them off their hands.

That or kill them all.

Wars only end when one side decisively winds and makes the other side not want to fight anymore or ever again.

Not surprising. Since Baker hates liberal, atheist "Jews" as it is...He must REALLY hate a religious Jew like Friedman who won't just walk into a gas chamber if Baker tells him it's for "peace."

lol.

What would “peace” even entail. The PLO doesn’t recognize Israel’s right to exist!!!

Is everyone mad?!?!

Israel needs to kick butt, redraw the lines to provide a HUGE buffers of miles and miles, and say #### you to any country that has a problem with it.

Which Arab army is in a position to stop them?

Enough with the bull####.

One thing that Barry Goldwater emphasized in the last chapter of The Conscience of a Conservative is that a nation has to stop prioritizing “peace” over victory, or else that nation is destined for defeat. I would prefer victory in the Middle East if (or rather since, to be realistic) we cannot have “peace” via simpering platitudes. (And that of course means victory for Israel.)

Baker was an inept wuss as SoS and like Albright, Clinton and Kerry, a failure at providing anything beneficial for the US.

You had your chance James and you failed. Why does the media keep going to the losers for advice. If they knew how to make peace they would have done it when they were up at bat.

Bakr was all his life an Arabist, for and by the Oil countries. He is one who could have had us use our own oil, and spared our soldiers defending Arab oil for our use and the oil Sheiks profit.

In Israel he is known as Anti Israel, and many think he is a Jew hater. I am not sure but he never saw the fake Pallies as the obstacle to peace. Where are the, Jewish suicide bombers, hired killers of Arabs, Jews who run over Arabs, Jews who kidnap Arab kids, Jews who shoot missiles first at Arabs.

The hate is on the fake pally side, and of course morons like Baker.

I have an educated dear Liberal friend who I used to date, that was STUNNED when I told her that Israel is about the size of New Jersey (where she’s from).

The Jews don’t bother anybody. They have a little piece of real estate that they’ve had since before Islam existed. Stop f’ing with them, and there will be peace.

Some Saudi Sheik in 1929 remarked that he loved Great Britain and the US, as blonde, blue-eyed boys who he could snap his fingers at, and his will be done, due to the oncoming automotive age. He was right, for a time.

Fracking put an end to that shit. DJT and myself are blonde, blue-eyed, tall, enraged Americans, and I can feel his contempt for Middle East oil hegemony right there with mine.

Oil hegemoney is moving to the Christian North, away from Islam.

The ME will be more secure and more peaceful if Israel is backed to the hilt ant the palies are told to pound sand, or better yet forced into Jordan and Egypt and the Mediterranean. An American naval base in Israel would be good.

” “cannot be Israel’s lawyer” if it expects to successfully broker peace in the Arab/Israeli conflict. “

Animosity for 2000 years, so waste of time to attempt “peace”. President Trump should just take sides with Israel, but make sure the oil-producing Arab states continue to pump and sell oil. End of story.

The Palestinians have never seen us as an “honest broker,” but rather an instrument to bully and hector Israel as a way to achieve their objectives. Trump needs to change the paradigm. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is insane.

Fortunately for US Trump is NOT a ‘lawyer’. Look at the boiling cauldron our present Harvard Law School graduate has unleashed in the Middle East. By the time our present ‘lawyer’ leaves office, nobody in the Middle East will trust US.
