I recognize that. Does that give Russia the right to enter a sovereign nation and do what it wants?

If there was a beef over that, then address that.

You don’t simply march across borders and absorb the territory you want

“Israel is backing ISIS?”

Israel is engaged in realpolitik with regards to Syria.
Fundamentally they view Assad as a greater long term threat than ISIS and Al-Qaeda. Assad is a Shiite and on friendly terms with the Shia in Lebanon (Hezbollah) and Iran (Republican Guards etc.). Israel considers Iran their number 1 threat at present. Therefore, Israel sees Assad as a greater threat than ISIS. That is why they bomb Assad and treat injured Free Syrian Army (Sunni Jihadis) forces in their hospitals.

ISIS hasn’t attacked Israel, yet. Israel does “tit-for-tat.”
So, ....when did Assad attack Israel?

We had no business even messing in elections 7000 miles from our borders. Russia has obligations to her citizens and neighbors of Russian ethnicity.

But. I don’t want to argue the Russian side. I can’t. I don’t have access to any kind of information about what goes on there other than our good old midstream media. I suppose Putin is probably a bad actor, I’m not as sure about it as I used to be.

If you want to get down to it, should Putin be in power?

He gamed the system over there to the point he’s got it for life it seems. That makes him somewhat illegitimate too.

I am not convinced anyone has pristine hands on this. I don’t buy the idea it was evil for the Ukraine to opt to go with the West. Lets not kid ourselves either. Russia had it’s own players in there fighting.

>>> I should have included the source I quoted from, here it is: http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/3220/jewish/The-Jews-Double-Standard.htm

I’m not taking issue with Israel’s action, but I wanted to clarify something for those reading along. I’m not a Jewish expert, but the statement that you quoted (”If someone is coming to kill you, rise against him and kill him first.”) is not in the Torah. It is in the Talmud.

>>> The Torah consists of the Written Torah and the Oral Torah.

It is also not based upon the Talmud’s view of Deuteronomy 22:26

>>> Here is the referenced verse: http://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/9986/jewish/Chapter-22.htm#v=26&showrashi=true

>>> Read Rashi (the colored box) which includes additional references.

It (the statement from the Talmud) is not part of the Jewish Torah, neither is it part of the Christian Bible.

>>> Partially correct.

Agreed. And they never view Salafists (Gulfies) a strategic threat because these Sunnite zealots are, for lack of more direct description, inbreds with low IQs. Persians and Shia not so much.

But supporting ISIS and AQ for geosyrategic reasons, especially with the goal intended, is gravely immoral IMO. There a fundamental principle in Christian moral theology that says that it is never permissible to do evil so that good might come. If one were to call a geostrategic gain good when is has the double effect of slaughtering Christians and other non-Sunnites.

Israel does not need the F-35s to do this job, they use F-15s and F-16s with lethal accuracy. It could have been a F-35 test though...

“Syria has fought Israel multiple times”

That’s quite true. However, my question was:
“So, ....when did Assad attack Israel?”

“But supporting ISIS and AQ for geosyrategic reasons, especially with the goal intended, is gravely immoral IMO.”

I fully agree. I also suspect that Obama fully supports Israel’s attacks on the Assad regime. It has been the stated policy of Obama’s Administration to remove Assad from power.

One can only speculated as to Obama’s motive.....

It will be very interesting to see what Trump’s policy in regards to Assad will be. He has voiced that he viewed ISIS as a greater threat than Assad to long term U.S. security.

Israel and Syria are still in a state of war; they just don’t act on it, like I guess, the US, South Korea vs. North Korea.

” The two countries have since the establishment of the State of Israel been in a state of war.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel%E2%80%93Syria_relations

But what does this mean? Little really.

“Since 2004, Israel has exported apples to Syria through the Quneitra crossing. In 2010, some 10,000 tons of apples grown by Druze farmers in the Golan Heights were sent to Syria.[8] Israeli minister Ayoub Kara called for an agreement with Syria over the supply of water to towns in the Golan Heights.”

Anyway, Israel has struck in Syria about 10 times in 2 years, there is some sort of data on it and every few months, something like this happens.

Surely, Hezbollah who fired hundreds of missiles into Israel and Hamas get aid from Iran, probably Syria too. So, it’s a two-way street.

It’s all geo-political, I hate us being a partner with Saudi Arabia; but then, you see if we withdraw from partnerships with Turkey, Egypt or the Philippines, they go to the Russians.

The Russians have met with the Saudis; you’ll find plenty of info on that, should we pull out of KSA, the Russians will take advantage of that. Unfortunately, that’s how the world works.

Obama screwed up with Egypt definitely, regime change, nation building is for the birds.

It’s all geopolitical;

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/defence/russia-china-and-pakistan-for-flexible-ties-with-taliban-india-ignored/articleshow/56233609.cms
Russia, China and Pakistan for flexible ties with Taliban ...

Now, I don’t know if this is true but if it is, I heard Russia is a bit afraid of how Afghanistan is going and that ISIS could take it over, so? Taliban better than ISIS? I guess is what they are looking at. Taliban, definitely Sunni as well.

If Russia wants Afghanistan, they can have it.

Good luck with all that.

Mr. M.J.B. is correct, which is why Israel not only took out Iraq’s nuclear capability, but also Syria’s and Iran’s.

And it wasn’t just for Israel’s benefit either — it was for the benefit of the whole world.

“Israel not only took out Iraq’s nuclear capability, but also Syria’s and Iran’s.”

The last I heard, Israel has not taken out Iran’s nuclear programs. Perhaps some sabotage (stuxnet) and some assassinations but certainly not enough to have stopped it.

That’s conventional wisdom. It could very well that they didn’t either. Was the U.S plugged in on this? Wonder how loud they’ll howl.
