In 2009, a mere 7 years ago, the US bailed out GM to the tune of $78 billion.

It ended up costing us 10.8 billion, never recovered.

I guess that allowed GM to build these new plants outside the US. And close the US manufacturing down anyway.

The problem is that those jobs are not being picked up by one of the domestic competitors, but by foreign workers.

This is most certainly not a good image for those concerned about government interference in their business. And it nearly eliminates any moral argument on behalf of "Free Trade".

Note how the headline implies that it’s Trump’s fault...

If it’s from cnn, you can bet there’s a LOT more to this story.

Coming on 18Jan immediately gives it the smell of another hit piece.

GM seems to enjoy poking a stick at DJT.

Not a good business plan.

It would be a shame if freight trains heading into the USA from Mexico laden with GM cars were sabotaged. A darn shame.

Didn’t GM’s female CEO mouth off to Trump? Sad to see their workers punished for that, but those are the breaks.

What's the rest of the story, CNN?

Are you fabricating, telling half-truths, or distorting?

GM’s Lordstown, Ohio and Lansing, Michigan plants build slow-selling cars sold by Chevrolet and Cadillac. GM said it will furlough the employees when it cuts the third shift at both plants in January.

GM says the furlough is a response to what the company believes will be a continued shift from cars to crossovers and trucks. The Lordstown plant builds the compact Chevrolet Cruze, whose U.S. sales through October were down 20%. The Lansing Grand River plant builds the Cadillac ATS and CTS, whose sales were down 17% through October.

Does the UAW still own a big chunk of GM? It was in their health/pension trust, but I can’t find out if they sold it. Anyone here know?

GM to Add or Keep 7,000 US Jobs, Make $1B Factory Investment

In all, the Detroit automaker said it will create or keep 7,000 jobs in the next few years, including about 2,000 at factories. Another 5,000 new positions will be created at its auto financing arm and to develop advanced technology, electric and autonomous vehicles and information technology.

If this is the case, why a massive layoff now?

And the government waived federal taxes for Government Motors, while Ford & Chrysler had to pay. Talk about picking winners, all on the taxpayers’ dime. Now they fire Americans the week Pres. Trump takes office. No wonder workers have turned against Democrats.

Why did I not get a free GM car? Why was my house taken from me while we paid billions to third world dictators? Why is the IRS punishing me with huge fines for taxes I cannot afford to pay while we give Pakistan and other horrible countries our money? Why are our inner cities rotting while we give our money to every third world banana republic out there? Why do we allow the UN to live rent free in our country? Why won’t my country offer me the same things that we give all these other trash organizations and countries?

No surprise for Government Motors. I wonder how many of us consider it a patriotic duty to not buy an Obamacar?

Do staff cuts at Government Motors count towards Trump’s 20% reduction in Federal Government staffing, or is it a bonus?

I detest Government (Union) Motors for taking taxpayer money, stealing bond holders money, shutting down successful dealerships because they were owned by Republicans, and failing to do what a real private company does in bankruptcy which is do a proper restructure and address fundamental problems.

As far as I am concerned, America will be better off with Government Motors gone.

Good old CNN. All propaganda, all the time.

If Trump brought 1,000,000 jobs into America, CNN would complain about the poverty he’s causing in foreign nations.

If Trump caused manna to fall from the heavens, CNN would complain about American obesity.

If Trump walked on water, CNN would breathlessly announce “Trump can’t swim!”
