Obama administration spent billions to fix failing schools, and it didn’t work

One of the Obama administration’s signature efforts in education, which pumped billions of federal dollars into overhauling the nation’s worst schools, failed to produce meaningful results, according to a federal analysis. Test scores, graduation rates and college enrollment were no different in schools that received money through the School Improvement Grants program — the largest federal investment ever targeted to failing schools — than in schools that did not.

Anybody who follows this knew pumping more money into horrible schools would not make one damn difference. Just look at what happened to Kansas City. A judge ordered the state to pump billions of dollars into KC School to entice white students to go to school in the hood. MO gutted the budget for schools outside of KC. I spent a summer in 1991 in KC interning at the Federal Reserve Bank there. The TV constantly showed all these awesome magnet schools in KC trying to entice whitey. Just a few of the schools I remember was a school with Olympic quality athletic facilities, a Latin school, and a school focusing on science with top notch lab facilities and equipment. What was the result of all this "investment". Nothing changed. Whitey kept to the 'burbs and the students in KC showed no improvement in any metrics around student performance. As long as there is 75% bastard rate in the African-American community and 50% Hispanic bastard rate nothing will change. The only solution is to take the kids away form their baby mammas and put them in top notch orphangage like institutions.

Liberals know the definition of money.

They do not know the definition of standards.

And Dorkbama the Muslim eunuch was an ideal leader of liberals, because the lack of standards let to his rise and election.

Unions do siphon off much much of the money on its way to improving education.

Exactly, none of that money was spent on fixing the schools. It was just payback to the unions.

Cut Obama a break...all his attention was focused on repairing race relations in the US.

Yes, but objective testing and grades are the old way of measuring success. Look at the acceptance of LGBT..., BLM, Islam,...blah blah blah. Schools have become very successful.

Spending government money to “fix” schools can only exacerbate the failings of the schools. Spending private money to fix public schools has necessarily the same result.

Quickest way to push schooling in the right direction is Home Schooling, Vouchers, and charter schools, empowering parents, National Right to Teach (union membership and dues optional).

There is a toxic culture producing the students fed into those schools. Until that culture is neutralized, no reform is going to help those schools.

In that culture, being successful is “acting white” and thus is something to be avoided at any cost. And that is just one of the problems.

That KC "experiment" had to fail because the problem is the population that fills those tech and amenity laden schools. White kids from middle class or even working class homes can't learn anything useful in classes that are continually in disruption and partially filled with kids who have an adversarial relationship with education.

Lefties could throw a trillion at it and still show no results. Until you burn down the group think Teachers lounge’s and fix the gehtto family unit it’s a lost cause.

***************

And to the bureaucrats and Beltway contractors. For all those parties, the spending worked out quite well.

It’s time to pull the plug on all this unproductive government largess. Only fund results, not promises.

Throwing $$$ at “students” who don’t want to study and “teachers” who don’t want to work, is a total waste

That KC project was doomed from the get-go. No way any parent was going to send their kids to the ghetto

They never meant to “fix’ the schools.

They wanted to make sure the teachers unions got stronger. It was never about fixing anything except the votes for democRATS.

Yeah, all went to unions and administrators, etc. Nothing for students and materials. It’s a shame when teachers have to buy supplies for their classes.

Gee....maybe because attitude toward learning is the fundamental problem. Not $$. Even if you give kids a state of the art school infrastructure + great teachers, they won’t learn anything if they have a bad attitude. People still managed to learn (and learn well) in one room schoolhouses. $$ by itself is never going to fix the attitude problem.
