U.S. supermarket operator Kroger Co said on Monday it would fill 10,000 permanent positions in its supermarket divisions.

Kroger, which had about 431,000 full- and part-time employees as of Jan. 30, 2016, also said its total active workforce grew by more than 12,000 in 2016.

The world's No. 1 retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc said last week it would create about 10,000 jobs in the United States this year, as President Donald Trump puts pressure on companies to hire more U.S. workers.

With the Obamacare mandate gone, it is cheaper to maintain full-time employees rather than a larger number of part-timers, simply to avoid the hours per week cap.

>>>President Donald Trump puts pressure on companies to hire more U.S. workers<<<

The best part about it is that I’ll be able to actually understand the workers!

None of those jobs will be coming to Pittsburgh.

The unions drove Kroger out of town with insane demands in 1985.

DOH!!

Anecdotal story about Kroger.

I have a relative that shops at one of their new super stores. He goes in and buys the stuff they mark down in the fresh areas. Meat, cheese shop, etc. There is usually always something to chose from but he will NEVER buy the Chobani they mark down on principle.

He was looking at the section that has prepared stuff on one of their gondolas. One of the workers was there and asked if she could help. He said no he was just looking to see what was marked down. She said..what do you want.. I will mark it down for you. We would rather sell it than not.

I asked him if he looked homeless at the time..LOLOL.

He loves shopping there because good customer service.

I remember having to pay the stupid union dues for my little part time job at Kroger back in 1990...seemed like it took half my paycheck.

They have incentives for their employees that my relative tries to do.

I can’t remember what they are called but if you go to the customer service desk and praise one of the workers for going above and beyond they get some kind of coupon to use..like $2 or $3 dollars. If you go online to praise them they get a free lunch coupon or something similar. Things like that.

Yes.

Only delusional liberals could believe that the way the mandate was structured it wouldn't result in full time jobs changing to part time.

Because of the unions you only have to work 24 hours a week to get full medical, so removing the OCARE mandate would have NOTHING to do with this!!! HOWEVER lowering taxes and regulations will be HUGE in any kind of food industry!!! ALL of the ridiculous labeling ect. in the grocery industry will be VERY HELPFUL!!! The labeling requirements on menus in the restaurant industry will also be HUGE for them!!! Who the HELL cares what the calorie count is on a Big Mac if you want a Big Mac you ALREADY KNOW it is NOT a low calorie item or the fries that go with it!!! It has become so difficult to even read the menu boards with ALL of the CRAP on them!!!

they probably won’t hire many new people just increase hours of part timers 5-10 hrs a week to full time. Not much help for unemployed.

In our little community outside of Houston, the developers have won out. We will soon have 3 WalMarts as well as 3 Krogers in our area within a 6 mile radius. I hate it. We moved up here 45 years ago when it was “country”. No more, but I support the jobs that will be created because of it. We’re retired and have the option to visit these stores while everyone else is at work and that’s a good thing.

More wins.

However, on the down side, when the illegals leave, there will be less customers causing employers to decrease their workforce. Fifteen years ago, it was estimated 1 of every 8-10 people in the US was illegal. Who knows what the real number is today.

If employers can hire full time without penalty, you’re going to see some serious energy and cash flowing through the economy.
