The Daily Beast Falls For Twitter Hoax, Falsely Identifies Quebec City Mosque Shooters

The Daily Beast falsely reported Sunday night that a pair of white supremacists had been identified as the perpetrators of the mass shooting at a Quebec City mosque.

The rumor that white supremacists David M.J. Aurine and Mathieu Fournier were identified as the shooters appears to have been begun by a hoax Reuters account.

Again, that isn’t really Reuters, but the tweet racked up over a thousand retweets. While many fell for the hoax on social media, the only outlet that reported on it was the Daily Beast.

The parody account appeared to acknowledge the Daily Beast story, tweeting two hours later, “It’s not my fault modern journalists are all gullible morons.”

Fake news was desperate to turn Quebec City mosque shooting into an Islamophobic attack.

Oops! Tells you how they do business and the contempt they have for their audience.

Why would they care? if it convinces a few thousand people, their mission has been accomplished.

Genuinely fake news is believeable because the media makes it so hard to tell the difference.

Don’t expect people who suffer from Stockholm syndrome to be rational. They are neurotic and dangerous.

Daily Beast Falls For Fake News On Quebec Mosque Shooting http://dailycaller.com/2017/01/30/daily-beast-falls-for-fake-news-on-quebec-mosque-shooting/

In spite of the fact that only one tweet from an unverified account provided this information, The Daily Beast cited it in its piece on the shooting.

“Police said two suspects were in custody after the attack. They were identified as white supremacists David M.J. Aurine and Mathieu Fournier, according to Reuters,” read the story without an author byline.

The uncorrected version further added, “This is not the first time the mosque has suffered from a hate crime. In July, a pig’s head was left at the mosque.”

The error was left in the story for some time after Twitter users started noticing it Sunday night.

I don't think they're being paid by their audience. I think they're being paid by people who want to influence their audience.

It would have been more amusing if they hoaxers had picked some long-retired hockey players. Canadians would probably get it, but Americans would not have

Ie) the attack was committed by Bernie Geoffrion and Jacques Plante.

Anticipating a response from the Daily Beast and Obama: “The story may not have been true, but it fit the narrative.”

“Remember the good days when a story had to be verified by a second source before they ran with it?”

My impression growing up in the ‘60’s was that newsmen were solid, careful professionals. This was in the day when JFK could have an open affair and nobody reported on it despite it being common knowledge. Then came Watergate and the news profession became a mad scramble for the next big story and grabbing a few minutes of fame that would make the reporter rich and secure for the rest of his life. Now, the profession has devolved into a bunch of poorly educated political hacks desperately seeking clicks and maybe to become a talking head on TV while that news medium still exists. What a pathetic decline.

Trudeau and DeBlasio both made statements that implied this was an “Islamophobia” attack.

Print, broadcast and particularly internet “journalism” are in a state of near-anarchy. These jerks who write and post knowingly false drivel must be aware that all this will eventually come back to bite us all in the butt. They are rapidly chipping away at the First Amendment, though many don’t seem to care. It can’t go on like this forever.

I predict huge changes coming soon on what the press can and cannot publish, major crackdowns on social media, especially Twitter, perhaps a government oversight on the internet itself to monitor and control false news sites. This is not good for any of us in the long run. Our freedom of expression is being quickly eroded by a relative few slimeballs who abuse their rights.

I’m personally for a completely free internet, but it’s been shown over time that the public isn’t capable of self-policing. Some things should not and cannot be allowed, among them a “press” that wantonly disseminates false information for the express purpose of gulling the populace and changing public opinion.

The tribunist blocked commentaries the minute it was revealed they were muslims.

The whole story broke out with #islamophobia hashtags. The lynching started.

Now they are going to spin it for gun control in Canada while trudeau will keep funding ISIs himself Fast and Furious style, inviting terrorists and sending arms to Syria . The socialists know just like Hitler to rely on violent Alinsky types in order to keep power brutaly and hypocritically.

We are seeing a hybrid of Caliph type lynching and totalitarian soft violence
