UC Riverside Student Leaders Vote To Ban Sabra Hummus [More for the BDS efforrt

The Associated Students of University of California – Riverside voted on Wednesday night to remove Sabra Hummus from all campus dining services, The Highlander reports.

Student leaders voted 13-0-1 in favor of the resolution to kick Sabra Hummus off campus. Sabra’s joint owner, the Strauss Group, is the largest food products company in Israel and has financially supported the Israeli military, according to the New York Times.

Students who supported the measure were “troubled” by funds that could potentially go to Israeli settlements by purchasing Sabra Hummus in their campus cafeteria.

UC Riverside said in a statement released on Thursday: “The University has no plans to change brands offered for sale or consumption in its stores and dining facilities. We remind all that the UCR Principles of Community apply.”

This isn’t the first time the southern California campus has experienced this issue either, a university spokesman told The Daily Caller. In 2015, UC Riverside initially replaced the Sabra brand with a a gluten-free alternative called “Tapaz 2 g0” in compliance with student demand, without realizing the underlying political issue, according to the Los Angeles Times. The university later called their decision a “mistake” and offered the Sabra brand along with the gluten-free alternative.

The Sabra Hummus boycott has been an ongoing issue that isn’t unique to UC Riverside’s campus. Palestinian students and supporters at Princeton University and DePaul University challenged Sabra’s chick-pea dip in 2010.

BTW, if you didn't know, BDS is the acronym used for "Boycott, Divest, Sanctions" -- generally a concerted effort by leftists to starve out Israel.

And yet Jews went 30/70 for Hillary.

To be fair, they are American first and their votes should lie where they think America’s best interests are.

But WOW are they off on that!!

I know most on this board go back 5 or even 6 generations in America!

But my pop was born in Italy and I have relatives there and I would be pretty angry if Italy was singled out and boycotted over nonsense. Or for trying to defend itself.

You’d think it would be the same for Jews, but then not all Jews that are here came from Israel.

I think they weight that one bad thing against things they THINK are good.

Christianity hasn’t been kind to them through the ages so I could see a little distrust of an outwardly proud Christian president.

Left Wingers relly hate the Jews. Why do American Jews vote for a party that hates them? Doesn’t make sense

Christianity hasn’t been kind to them through the ages ...

That is an understatement! Jews have been singularly mistreated for nearly 2000 years by Christendom. I don't expect they will simply forget that, the great Evangelical support for Israel notwithstanding...

I don’t know.

It’s not very exotic.

Most supermarkets of any size carry it.

I had heard that there was some problem with Sabra, that it had bacteria. Now I wonder if it was an attempt to get people to stop buying it for this stupid reason. I like it. Especially the hot pepper and olive stuff. I’ll start buying it again.
