JoAnn Wise thinks she wasn’t treated well.
In an op-ed published Tuesday by The Washington Post, Wise writes, “I already know what Trump/Puzder economics look like because I’m living it every day. Despite giving everything I had to [labor secretary pick Andy] Puzder’s company for 21 years, I left without a penny of savings, with no health care and no pension.”
Wise worked for 21 years at Hardee’s, which is one of the chains Puzder leads as head of CKE.
“In 1984, I was hired as a cashier at Hardee’s in Columbia, S.C., making $4.25 an hour. By 2005, 21 years later, my pay was only at $8 an hour,” she writes. Dear reader:
“That’s a $3.75 raise for a lifetime of work,” Wise adds. “Adjusted for inflation, it’s only a 2-cent raise.”

What did she expect, staying at Hardee’s as a cashier for 20 years? If she couldn’t be bothered to try for a management job she should have parlayed herself into a better position at a different company.
She wasn’t ambitious enough or smart enough . .likelly both

Cashier is a career job?! She’s getting paid what the job is worth, she should accept it or seek more challenging work.
Yeah why didn’t Joann tryno find a better job or get some education so that she could move up in the world? And if she thinks Trump is the problem with the current economy where the hell has her brain been the last 8 years when there were more businesses closing than any other time in history that I can ever recall? More people whose savings were depleted than any other time in history than I can ever remember? People whose checks were eaten up by Obamacare premiums and penalties along with grocery prices that that climbed higher than any other time I can remember in history.
What no stock options either?
I’m sure she at least got a annual $5000 Christmas bonus right?
Food stamps, free Obama. Cell phone, etc.
She was paid the going rate for every hour she worked there. The employer’s responsibility ends there.
So for 20 years this dolt stood in the way preventing teenagers from their first entry-level job!
And now a computer touch screen will do the job.
I doubt she wrote this herself.
I would be in far worse shape if I had stayed at my first job. I worked at El Taco and they are long gone...
Why on earth would someone stay at Hardees for 20 years? Maybe she was a high school dropout? Couldn’t read and write english? Had an attendance problem?
Ok, I’m not going to put down cashiering as a career choice, but one would think, after obtaining one year’s experience, a person would give themselves a raise by moving on to say, a supermarket or a department store and then a larger store and so on and so on until a comfortable wage was obtained.
Stupid is as stupid does. Mind boggling that somebody would stay at an entry level job for 20 years and then whine about it. Stupid and lazy is no way to go through life.
It boggles the mind, Bush’s fault for 8 years segueing smoothly into Trump’s fault at 5 minutes after inauguration.
I worked part time as a cashier to put myself through college and that was when minimum wage was <$2.00 per hr.! I also did other jobs like babysitting, cleaning houses and working at a McD’s after the store I cashiered at closed for the night. What I didn’t do was depend on the government for anything.
Yep. Not only that, but she failed to realize that having more than a year at a fast food job on a resume is a negative. Any potential employer is going to assume she stayed because she was incapable of anything more complicated.
This crowd fails to understand that a job is worth exactly the same no matter how much repetitious experience the worker has. If a job can be done equally well by someone with one week experience, then having 20 years doing that job doesn’t make the worker any more valuable.
One of the first things anyone can understand is that each job has a certain value to the employer dictated by the value of the contribution.
An experienced burgher flipper or ditch digger might be worth more than a novice but there is a top limit to how much that particular job is worth no matter how many years you have been employed.
If someone remains in a dead end job for 21 years it is not the employers fault.
