It is, apparently, if the law relates to immigration. At Penn State, someone put up posters urging students and others to report violations of the immigration laws. This is the poster:
Is it a civic duty to report illegal aliens? That is certainly a defensible position. In general, citizens should cooperate with law enforcement. But Penn States administration didnt see it that way:
The posters are unsigned and appear to be designed to provoke anger, fear and hate. The university finds them deeply offensive, Penn State said in a statement.
Is enforcing the law really a sign of anger, fear and hate? And why, exactly, is it offensive to suggest that citizens should cooperate in enforcing federal law? How did it happen that the American establishment became overwhelmingly, and enthusiastically, in favor of illegal immigration?
The university said in its statement about the posters that officials wanted to emphasize that every student on this campus has earned the right to be here based on their [sic] academic qualifications and hard work.
Hmm. Is there anything in the poster about academic qualifications and hard work? Not that I noticed. Whether a student has a right to be at Penn State (or anywhere else in the U.S.) depends in part, of course, on our immigration laws.
Penn State is enriched by students and scholars from around the world and we will continue our work on providing a climate of inclusion for all, regardless of country of origin, the university said.
But the poster says nothing about country of origin. It is fine to have a climate of inclusion for all, but if all includes people who are present in the United States illegally, it shouldnt come as a shock if they are caught and deported. Does Penn States administration mean to suggest that it deliberately harbors illegal aliens, thereby aiding and abetting violations of federal law? I think that is the clear implication. Does Penn State receive federal funding?
We are living in a very bizarre era, in which large numbers of otherwise-respectable people consider it a point of moral superiority to commit, or aid in the commission of, federal crimes. This largely explains why Donald Trump is now our president.
There have been properly passed laws in this society, and many others, that would have been disturbing if not impossible to enforce, had that been my job.
‘Lawful’ does not equal morally right. That is a universal regardless of one’s political persuasion.
So at Penn St. it’s “deeply offensive” to expect people to obey the laws of this country. How do they feel about stealing identities, Social Security numbers, and student aid? Penn St. is encouraging lawlessness, and parents should know this before enrolling their students there.
Everything that is good about America is offensive to liberals.
Penn State finds this deeply offensive...the building? The campus? What part of Penn State has developed feelings?
When people don’t want to take responsibility, they resort to third person. When they really don’t want to take responsibility, they resort to...what? Blaming their feelings on a building?
So how do we determine differences between laws and morally right actions? That may be the crux of the issue when it comes to dealing with illegal aliens.
ask’them’that when obama was president. remember the enforcement. no mercy for opposition at all.
they are scared shiiteless that we have someone on the other side with the guts to govern like they have governed.
Offensive to the morons breaking the law. Tough shiit.
After all those years of Clinton and Obama lawlessness, I guess laws ARE offensive now, unless they are against white male Christians.
If a Leftist is enforcing the law, it is wonderful.
If a Conservative is enforcing the law, it is terrible.
That is the mindset we are dealing with. Complete moral relativism.
Might makes Right.
I’m sure if someone put up a poster saying that everyone should report those who MIGHT have unregistered firearms, they would think that was fine.
Enforcing ONLY the laws they like is what liberals are all about. 0bama didn’t agree with the immigration laws, she he told ICE, the Border Patrol, and everyone else to put enforce them. 0bama didn’t like certain drug laws, and started releasing people convicted of drug offenses.
As it is written, in Jesse Stone novels:
“I’m in the legal/illegal business, not the right or wrong business.”
Enforcing the law is, and has always been an ‘offense’, to the criminal, who has always thought themselves, apart, separate, and beyond the law.
It is not “deeply offensive” in the least if the law is constitutional. It is deeply offensive, perhaps worse, if a constitutional law is not enforced and ignoring its enforcement does demonstrable harm to the citizens that abide by it and are protected by it.
Read “letter from a Birmingham jail”
Penn State has given us apparent coverups and truly offensive behavior regarding pedophilia and a climate change research scandal. Now “the University” claims that a poster urging people to follow the law is “deeply offensive.” Also, they just hired Joe Biden, which hire comes with a near guarantee of future actual “deeply offensive” professorial statements. What would it take to close that University?
For liberals it is. Whatever law they don’t like they won’t obey and then protest and riot over it.
Why can’t illegals apply for student visas like the other students from their countries?
What is really offensive is allowing fraudulently documented foreigners to ignore ALL of our laws with impunity.
Illegal aliens don’t just break in, they then use fraudulent documents, work illegally, drive drunk, collect benefits they are not eligible to receive, file fraudulent tax returns to collect refunds that are not legitimate and rip off the taxpayers.
I’m sick of people who value illegal aliens more than their fellow citizens.
Once they crossed the border without permission they became illegal aliens.
Visas are issued to foreign nationals in their countries.
Nothing is stopping them from returning home and applying.
OTOH, reporting your neighbor to the Thought Police is encouraged, and will soon be mandatory.
