David Petraeus will not be replacing Michael Flynn as Donald Trump's next national security adviser.

Trump ousted Flynn on Monday in a controversy over the retired lieutenant general's contacts with Russia.

Petraeus, a retired general and former CIA director, expressed concern about Trump's reluctance to grant the new adviser full discretion over policy and staffing.

On Friday, Petraeus told the Munich Security Conference: 'Whoever it is that would agree to take that position certainly should do so with some very, very significant assurances that he or she would have authorities over the personnel of the organization.

'That there would be a commitment to a disciplined process and procedures,' the Wall Street Journal reported.

Petraeus was a good guy who let himself be compromised.

He’s not needed anymore.

Aye to the poster who declares this a relief.

What “Adviser” gets full discretion over policy?

Screw you, Gen. Petraeus.

Very glad it won’t be Petraeus!! Considering what he did to get himself prosecuted, it would have been ridiculous to replace the totally INNOCENT Mike Flynn with the convicted David Petraeus.

Like Mitt, this guy was brought into job interviews so could be neutralized. At least he has the good sense not to let himself be played again, which he deserves.

Good -Trump will grant such authority only once one has proved his/her loyalty. Petraeus is reminiscent of Ryan dictating conditions before he would “accept” the Speaker position....

Agreed.I wonder how many junior officers under his command back in the day were shown the door for the very thing he was guilty of?He’s an elite snob and I love what Trump does to the likes of his ilk.

He was a good soldier for the people of America at one time. He screwed up and is free to move on with his life but has proven he can’t be trusted with the government’s business so he needs to stay out of it.

Plus the NRA warns us of his anti-gun stance which automatically disqualifies him on that one issue alone.

Via con Dios Patreaus.
