Wilbur Ross confirmed as Commerce secretary
foxnews.com ^

The Senate voted Monday to confirm billionaire investor Wilbur Ross as secretary of commerce in President Trump's Cabinet.

Ross was approved by a vote of 72-27, with 20 Democrats and Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, joining 51 Republicans to vote "aye." Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., did not vote due to his ongoing recovery from back surgery.

The Senate later voted 67-31 to move forward on the nomination of Rep. Ryan Zinke, R-Mont., to lead the Interior Department. A final vote on Zinke's confirmation could occur on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Ross is the 14th member of Trump's Cabinet to be cofirmed, with seven nominees still to be voted on.

Senators from both political parties were deferential to Ross at his nearly four-hour confirmation hearing, which was much more subdued than the confirmation hearings of other Trump nominees.

Former Commerce secretaries have praised him, including one who served under former President Barack Obama.

"I believe his extensive management experience in the private sector, and his understanding of the challenges faced by workers and businesses alike, will equip him well for the job of leading the Department of Commerce," said Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., chairman of the Commerce Committee.

Ross isn’t exactly a turnaround artist, but he came in through the backdoor by restructuring bankrupt companies...i.e. saving them from dissolution.

Amen Brother, continuous 24 / day, 7 days / wk are NEEDED. Freepers can help by demanding it from the Senate and, as I did today trying to get talk radio to spread the word. I sent letters as below to numerous talk radio hosts, PLEASE DO THE SAME.

Trying to get you and your fellow talk show hosts to get to work to mobilize the troops to resist the most effective opposition to President Trump. MITCH McCONNELL. The Administrative state cannot be stopped or even slowed down without Mr Trump’s people in the departments.
Sen. McConnell is enabling the Democrats to block his appointments by dragging out the process. Under the rules, and with the Senate’s usual 3 day work week and long recesses fore very holiday or campaigning breaks it will not be possible to confirm the over 400 “political” appointees the Pres needs the Senate to “consent” to in the entire 4 year term for which Mr Trump has been elected.
Only Talk Radio can rally the troops to force “The Turtle on the Fence post”(Mitch McConnell) and the Senate to act.
Please urge all your listeners to call the Senate and their individual Senators and DEMAND that the Senate be called into CONTINUOUS session, 24 hrs per day 7 days a week until all nominees, including Judge Gorsuch for the Supreme Court have been acted on. The Senate switchboard number is 202-224-3121 McConnell’s number is 202-224-2541
Without this action the Trump Train stops!!
Only Talk Radio can mobilize the people, the politicians of both parties want to stop us.

PLEASE ACT to save our revolution.

Mc Connell is not answering phone or taking any email messages. He has not used tweet since last week.
My democrat senator hasn’t taken any messages since January.
Republican is new. He’s nice but both he and the representative who took his place are totally frustrated at how the “leaders” are not leading

Republicans suck! Why are they doing one every other day? Why not just take one or two days and confirm them all? Just ram them through (at this point is it really ramming them through?)

And when Trump complains tomorrow night in his speech about the DemonRats holding up his Cabinet appoints they’ll say, “What’s he talking about, we just confirmed another one YESTERDAY”

Ross is the 14th member of Trump's Cabinet to be confirmed, with seven nominees still to be voted on.

Tomorrow is the last day of February. What the heck is taking the Republican controlled senate so long to get these people confirmed? So what if the Dems try delaying tactics. The Repubs don't need to be so damned collegial with them all the time.

This also highlights the fact that there are too many cabinet departments, thousands of appointments below the secretary level, and severely onerous background checks that take nearly the first full year of a new president's term to complete. The whole system is so damned stupid and bloated.

Have you suffered through watching one of these “votes” on CSPAN? If very many real people took the opportunity to watch, they'd be in the Senate Chamber with pitchforks and torches. Why these utterly contemptuous bastards can't sit at their desk and have the clerk call the role, incenses me. They wander around the chamber like it's some effing cocktail party, and one after another saunters over to one of the tables in front and gives a thumbs up or down then walks away. It literally takes an hour or more, when five minutes is all that's needed. What a passel of feckless turds!

I watched a few and it’s an absolute travesty! I always thought people said Senator’s shouldn’t run for President because of their voting record but it’s quite clearly because they are used to just talk, talk talk and that doesn’t actually work when you need to run a government. They all think they are so important and MUST be heard. Honestly, if 72 people voted for him why in the world did it take over a month? I don’t know how anything is going to get passed to be quite honest. Rush was talking about “Rule 19” a couple of weeks ago as a way to push through Gorsuch without going Nuclear. Since then, i’ve been wondering why don’t they use rule 19 for EVERYTHING?!?!? Essentially they talk themselves dry for 2 or 3 days and then you get to vote on the bill/nominations etc. Avoids the fillibuster

Just a note.

Today while watching spam and waiting on the Ross vote, I noticed DiFi of California using a cane to walk with, rather shuffle with...she is almost 85 and time for term limits.

that is the one reason I waste time watching them vote, to see who is helping who get around..they are all OLD..just as I am...time for them to RETIRE.

“I noticed DiFi of California using a cane to walk with, rather shuffle with...she is almost 85 and time for term limits.”

She’s the oldest @ 83, but there are a total of seven who are over 80, and all of them with the exception of DiFi, are Republicans:
Feinstein (83)D, 24 yr. in Office
Grassley (83)R, 36 yr.
Hatch (82)R, 40 yr.
Shelby (82)R, 30 yr.
Inhofe (82)R, 21 yr.
Roberts (80)R, 20 yr.
McLame (80)R, 30 yr.
This group has collectively 201 years in the Senate. (21% of the total years of service)

There are 13 who are in their 70’s
So 20% of the Senate is over 70, and collectively they have 420 years in the Senate
or 45% of the total of all of the years of service of all members in the Senate.
Do you see something wrong with this picture? As you stated, we desperately need term limits.

BTW McConnell is 75 and has been there for 32 years!
