Victims of Croatia's pro-Nazi World War II regime and their relatives are seeking $3.5 billion in damages in a suit filed in the United States, local media and officials said Monday.

The group wants compensation from the Croatian government for property seized from ethnic Serbs, Roma and Jews, as well as for their suffering during the war, state-run HRT television reported.

The suit was filed in a Chicago court last May. Croatia's foreign ministry confirmed to AFP that it had received a "note from the US embassy in Zagreb regarding the suit" on February 27 and Zagreb was given a two-month deadline to respond.

None. That ship sailed a long time ago.

I wonder when some Japanese american citizens will sue for property lost by their parents during WWII when they were interned...

When everyone involved is dead, it’s kinda late.

We are not interested in slavery reparations. It’s time to put WW2 to bed as well.

And he wants three and a half billion from Croatia.

A country with total assets maybe equaling the value of 10 goats, five chickens and a pig.

Scratch the pig. I bought it last week. It was the only one they had.

I think they need to go ahead with that deal from the guy in Nigeria if they expect to come up with that kind of cash.

My American citizen Great Grandmother was murdered at Jasenovac along with 700,000 other innocents.

That enough jurisdiction for you ?

At least the Japanese internments took place on U.S. soil so there is some basis for jurisdiction. This case involves acts committed over 70 years ago outside the U.S. No basis for jurisdiction.

No. . . crimes have to be tried in the jurisdiction in which they occurred. You are not allowed to go venue shopping just because another venue might be more sympathetic to your argument. Sorry.

According to the US Court Systems own website, the types of cases the US Courts are allowed to hear, i.e. their jurisdiction are these:

I see nothing there that brings the Creation internal issues under the Jurisdiction of the United States' Courts.
